It’s Limerick-Off time, once again. And that means I write a limerick, and you write your own, using the same rhyme word. Then you post your limerick as a comment to this post and, if you’re a Facebook user, on Facebook too.
I hope you’ll join me in writing a limerick using either BONE or TROMBONE at the end of Line 1 or Line 2 or Line 5. (Homonyms or homophones are fine.)
The best submission will be crowned Limerick Of The Week. (Here’s last week’s Limerick Of The Week Winner.)
How will your poems be judged? By meter, rhyme, cleverness, and humor. (If you’re feeling a bit fuzzy about limerick writing rules, here’s my How To Write A Limerick article.)
I’ll announce the Limerick of the Week Winner next Sunday, right before I post next week’s Limerick-Off. So that gives you a full week to submit your clever, polished verse. Your submission deadline is Saturday at 10:00 p.m. (Eastern Time.)
Here’s my limerick:
I often enjoy the trombone
When its notes are well-played and not blown.
But I loathe being hit
By trombone-player spit.
For their slobber, it’s time to atone.
Please feel free to write your own limerick using the same rhyme word and post it in my comments. And if you’re on Facebook, I hope you’ll join my friends in that same activity on my Facebook Limerick-Off post.
To receive an email alert whenever I post a new Limerick-Off, please email Madkane@MadKane.com Subject: MadKane’s Newsletter. Thanks!

A woman obsessed by her roots
Found some ancestors deep in cahoots
With pirates and killers.
No heroes! No pillars!
Now she knows why she likes to wed brutes.

An inventor and builder would hound
His staffers to break some new ground.
He found acting quite mean
And venting his spleen
Often led them to breakthroughs profound.

Here’s my two-verse limerick:
An email arrived to apprise
A woman that one of her pies
Won a prize — came in third,
But she later got word
That her pie caused the judges’ demise:
“You’ve poisoned our judges, good lord,
With that pastry of yours they adored.”
“Yes, the cops came,” she said.
“I was sleeping in bed.
Tell me, when do I get my award?”

Here are my two limericks:
A cop while on ev’ning patrol
Jailed a vagrant who’d stolen a bowl
Of hot soup for his meal.
It seems many folks feel
That stealing’s a RICH person’s role.
and
I’ve been asked as the rhyming patrol
If roll can be rhymed with parole:
With their stressed sound the same
(Roll and role) I must flame
Such a “rhyme,” if true rhyming’s your goal.

Here’s are my two limericks, one for “hair” and one for “hare.”
When a man lost a race by a hair,
He objected: “I won. It’s not fair!
Both my feet got there first.
But it seems that I’m cursed
Cuz I’m bald. Just his mane beat me there.”
and
A woman had offered to share
A meal with her boyfriend — roast hare.
He responded, “Not funny!
It looks like my bunny.”
Then he fled to she doesn’t know where.

Limerick Pass
By Madeleine Begun Kane
A stoner was trying to pass
Forged fifties to pay for a class.
He got caught and was jailed
And then tried to get bailed
With more fakes, so his ass is now grass.

Tart Limerick

It’s Limerick-Off time, once again. And that means I write a limerick, and you write your own, using the same first line. Then you post your limerick as a comment to this post and, if you’re a Facebook user, on Facebook too.
I hope you’ll join me in writing a limerick with this first line:
A fellow who loved to compete…*
or
Don’t laugh, but I plan to compete…*
or
A gardener needed some peat…*
*(Please note that minor variations to my first lines are acceptable. However, rhyme words may not be altered, except by using homonyms or homophones.)
Here’s my limerick:
The Competitor (Limerick)
By Madeleine Begun Kane
A fellow who loved to compete
Swore his records had never been beat.
But his one claim to fame
Is the one he won’t name.
Biggest braggart — it’s his in a heat.
Please feel free to write your own limerick using the same first line and post it in my comments. And if you’re on Facebook, I hope you’ll join my friends in that same activity on my Facebook Limerick-Off post.
To receive an email alert whenever I post a new Limerick-Off, please email Madkane@MadKane.com Subject: MadKane’s Newsletter. Thanks!

A youngster yelled out “That toy’s mine…”*
*(Please note that minor variations to my first lines are acceptable. However, rhyme words may not be altered, except by using homonyms or homophones.)
This week I’ve written two sample limericks:
Mining That Data
By Madeleine Begun Kane
A fellow whose job was to mine
Online data, by email would whine
About “nit-picking rules
Caused by privacy fools.”
(Hackers accessed his email, just fine.)
and
Personal Shopping
By Madeleine Begun Kane
A customer yelled out “That’s mine,”
After cutting in front of the line.
But two gals now behind her
Proceeded to bind her
In holiday ribbon and twine.
Please feel free to write your own limerick using the same first line and post it in my comments. And if you’re on Facebook, I hope you’ll join my friends in that same activity on my Facebook Limerick-Off post.

Here’s my limerick:
Limerick Appeasement
By Madeleine Begun Kane
A fellow had tried to appease
His wife, when she caught the old sleaze
In bed with some floozy.
His line was a doozy:
“This will save wear and tear on your knees.”

Limerick Snag
By Madeleine Begun Kane
A woman was racing to snag
A bargain-priced Michael Kors bag.
But two ladies, quite mean,
Caused a tug-of-war scene–
Shopping bagged cuz of hags — what a drag!
