What Would I Do Without Google? (Limerick)

Tuesday, September 27th, 2022

GOOGLE Search,” you’re my substitute brain.
You don’t mind if my quest is mundane.
Arcane queries don’t faze.
So is THAT enough praise?
Now please send lots of folks to “MadKane!”

Happy birthday to Google!

Search Engine Ode (Limerick)

Saturday, April 21st, 2018

When your site’s on the first page of Bing
And Google, you whistle and sing,
Cuz your marketing plan
Just might work. You’re “The Man,”
As your Net takes a large upward swing.

Muse Amusement (Limerick)

Saturday, January 28th, 2012

I was browsing my GooglePlus feed, when I encountered this post by poet Tyler Lovelace:

I hate when the first verse of a poem writes itself just to tease you. Then you have to force a lot of the poem out.

I swear my muses are all teases and skanks.

Tyler’s post prompted me to write this comment:

Trimmed down, that could make you a good limerick first line:
“My muses are teases and skanks …”

Tyler immediately (and generously) said the line was mine, thereby becoming my non-tease, non-skanky muse.

Here’s my limerick:

My muses are teases and skanks—
At their worst when my mind’s drawing blanks.
When they offer me rot,
Then I warn them, “Do not
Expect thanks for a concept that tanks!”

No Longer Tickered Out (Limerick)

Thursday, September 22nd, 2011

Regular readers know that Facebook’s News Ticker has been driving me mad! It’s also driven me to write three anti-Facebook limericks.

If you share my problem, or if you simply feel sorry for me, you’ll be pleased to know I’ve uncovered a solution: Google Chrome has an extension that makes Facebook’s annoying Ticker vanish.

I’ve installed it and the extension works great. No more News Ticker. Yippee!

Time to celebrate with a limerick:

No Longer Tickered Out
By Madeleine Begun Kane

My outlook is better today
Cuz I’ve sent Facebook’s Ticker away:
Yes, a cool Chrome extension
Does Ticker prevention.
To Google, big thanks and hooray!

Nonplussed by Google-Plus?
By Madeleine Begun Kane

Is Google-Plus blessing or curse?
It’s surely inspired some verse.
But here’s what I fear:
With the Plus option here,
My A.D.D.’s getting much worse.

A Limerick Ode To My Husband Mark Kane

A Limerick Ode To My Husband Mark Kane
By Madeleine Begun Kane

You’re in Facebook at last — Hip Hooray!
Till this morning, you kept saying “Nay!”
The reason is clear
Why you’re finally here:
I’ve joined Google-Plus as of today!

Limerick Ode To Google+
By Madeleine Begun Kane

Would-be early adopters are pining.
For Google-Plus entry they’re whining.
Invitees get to brag:
“I got in, while you lag.”
A great come-on of Google’s designing.

Ode To The Google PageRank Obsession

Wednesday, July 18th, 2007

Website owners, webmasters, and people who specialize in search engine optimization (SEO) and search engine marketing (SEM) tend to be an obsessive bunch, perpetually checking stats  in their quest for better numbers. What do improved numbers mean?  In theory, they beget better placement in search engine results pages (SERPS), more sales, and higher ad rates.

This obsession tends to reach a frenzied peak roughly four times a year, when Google’s Toolbar is updated, and you learn if your latest PageRank has risen or (heaven forbid) dropped. And while some may claim that they don’t care about PageRank, nobody believes them.

In honor of Google PageRank update season, which apparently is upon us, I’ve written this limerick:

Ode To The Google PageRank Obsession
By Madeleine Begun Kane

Google PageRank obsession is back,
‘Cause an update is due, which we track.
Have our efforts paid off?
Although many will scoff,
We need proof that we’re leading the pack.
