Where Have All The Good Chocolate Bars Gone? (Limerick)

Friday, December 9th, 2016

I would love a good chocolate bar,
But most of it tastes under par.
Are my standards too strict?
I confess, I feel licked;
Find a bonbon unmarred? None so far!

What Have They Done To My Treats? (2-Verse Limerick)

Sunday, November 1st, 2015

Halloween week I sampled some candy,
But stuff that I used to find dandy
Made me cringe with distaste.
Has aging laid waste
To my taste buds? I’d rather drink brandy.

Have the folks who make chocolate treats
Altered recipes, cheapened these sweets
Till they taste like debris?
Is it them? Is it me?
Either way, here come healthier eats.

Charlotte’s Ruse
By Madeleine Begun Kane

Ms. Charlotte was trying to fix
Choc’late brownies by using a mix.
Then she buried the box
Under undies and sox,
And declared them homemade. (They were bricks.)

Happy World Chocolate Day! (July 7)

December 8 is “National Brownie Day.”

Happy National Chocolate Week!

Tuesday, March 19th, 2013

Happy National Chocolate Week (celebrated yearly during the third week of March.) Not that anyone ever needs an excuse to eat chocolate.

I’m celebrating in a rather unexpected way: In the course of St. Patrick’s Day bar-hopping in my hometown Bayside, Queens, I met a fellow associated with Chocolate Alley Chocolatieres. And the next thing I knew, I was named CAC’s Limerick Laureate. So go check out my Q & A and chocolate limericks at this fun chocolate magazine and chocolate shop.

Yet Another Excuse To Eat Chocolate (Limerick)

Just what we all need — yet another reason to eat chocolate!

Eat chocolate, win a Nobel Prize?

It may sound far-fetched, but a new study suggests it might not be bad advice.

The results show countries that eat the most chocolate also have the highest number of Nobel laureates per capita.

Yet Another Excuse To Eat Chocolate (Limerick)
By Madeleine Begun Kane

If you want yet another excuse
To engage in some chocolate abuse,
It seems eating those sweets
Will create smart elites
And can Nobel Prize winners produce.

UPDATE: If you need a further excuse, I’ve just learned that December 16th is Chocolate Covered Anything Day.

An Acrostic Limerick Treat
By Madeleine Begun Kane

Though desserts can be very enticing,
Remember — beware of the pricing:
Ended up with a bill
Awf’ly high — bitter pill.
Thanks heavens for chocolate icing!

(Writers Digest’s Poetic Asides prompts us to write a dessert-related poem.)

You can find more of my acrostic limericks here.

Healthy Complaint

Healthy Complaint (Limerick)
By Madeleine Begun Kane

Dark choc’late, caffeine, and red wine
Might harm us, or may be just fine.
Ev’ry news item muddies
My mind with new studies.
Please make up your mind: What’s benign?

(Prompted by We Write Poems, which encouraged poets to use two prompts at once. I used health and chocolate.)

Chocolate Limerick

Poets United prompts us to write about chocolate:

Chocolate Limerick
By Madeleine Begun Kane

Dear candy shop, leave out the filling.
Those rich, creamy innards ain’t thrilling.
I like choc’late that’s pure.
Milk or dark? Both allure.
Must I choose? Okay, dark gets top billing.

Update: Happy National Chocolate Day: October 28th!
