Trump’s Magic Touch (Limerick)

Tuesday, March 17th, 2020

When the Donald appears on tv,
A deep Dow drop’s a fait accompli.
Into freefall it goes,
Which compounds all our woes…
And with bars closed, there’s nowhere to flee.

How Trump Marks The Market (Limerick)

Monday, October 29th, 2018

Headline: “US shares drop on renewed tariff threat against China”

Another bad day for the market!
But needless to say, Trump won’t “Hark!” it.
Dow’s up? He takes credit.
Dow’s down? He will edit
Causation; blame Fed. (He’ll tweet-bark it.)

Dow Doldrums (Limerick)

Monday, April 2nd, 2018

“The market keeps dropping!” we sob.
And there’s no reassurance from Schwab.
We feel robbed and depressed
And impossibly stressed.
Here’s my message to Donald: Great job!

The Devil In The Oval? (Limerick)

Friday, February 2nd, 2018

When the market is up, Donald crows
And boasts about HIS market close.
Now it’s down “666,”
But Trump’s got a fix:
Only mention the DOW when it grows.

*****
Alternative Version:

When the market is up, Donald crows
And boasts about HIS market close.
With a huge diminution,
Here’s Donald’s solution:
Only mention the DOW when it grows.

Our Industrious Lawmakers (Limerick)

Saturday, May 25th, 2013

This New York Times headline doesn’t exactly come as a shock: Banks’ Lobbyists Help in Drafting Financial Bills:

One bill that sailed through the House Financial Services Committee this month — over the objections of the Treasury Department — was essentially Citigroup’s, according to e-mails reviewed by The New York Times. The bill would exempt broad swathes of trades from new regulation.

In a sign of Wall Street’s resurgent influence in Washington, Citigroup’s recommendations were reflected in more than 70 lines of the House committee’s 85-line bill. Two crucial paragraphs, prepared by Citigroup in conjunction with other Wall Street banks, were copied nearly word for word. (Lawmakers changed two words to make them plural.)

Our Industrious Lawmakers (Limerick)
By Madeleine Begun Kane

It seems Wall Street is writing our laws;
Co’s like Citigroup — clause by bad clause.
If you think it’s a crime
That the rich win each time,
That right there is your probable cause.

Limerick Ode To Mitt “They’re All Just Jealous” Romney

Wednesday, January 11th, 2012

According to Mitt Romney, people who challenge Wall Street and economic unfairness are driven by “envy.”

Limerick Ode To Mitt “They’re All Just Jealous” Romney
By Madeleine Begun Kane

Distribution of wealth on your mind?
Take exception to it and you’ll find
That according to Mitt
You’re an envious twit.
To inequities, Romney is blind.

Mild-Mannered Comedian Ted Alexandro Takes A Tough Stand On Wall Street (Limerick)

Tuesday, September 27th, 2011

‎Ted Alexandro, one of my favorite comedians, is pictured demonstrating here at the Wall Street protests. I felt compelled to write him a limerick:

A wonderful comic named Ted
Protests Wall Street with sign above head.
He taught music in Queens
And he knows what it means
To fight for what’s right. Enough said!

Oddly enough, this is the second time Ted inspired me to write him a limerick: Limerick Ode To Ted Alexandro.

Ode To Corporate Vultures

Wednesday, September 24th, 2008

Here’s my latest haiku (senryu) about the Wall Street meltdown and the $700 billion (or much more) Bush-Cheney-Paulson-Bernanke rip-off-the-taxpayers bailout plan

Financial vultures
First gobble up our assets,
Then demand dessert.
