Dems Pull Bush’s Chain
By Madeleine Begun Kane

The Congressional Dems reached a deal.
No, it isn’t ideal, yet I feel
It’s all right—a first step.
Stop this war? Dems said, “Yep!”
As for reining in Bush, they said, “Heel!”  [tags]Congress Humor, Iraq War, Spending Bill, House Bill, Rein In Bush, U.S. Troops Readiness, Veterans’ Health and Iraq Accountability Act, Strategic Redeployment, U.S. Troops[/tags]

Gonzo, Begone … And Take Your Pal Bush With You!

Tuesday, March 20th, 2007

Kudos to Josh Marshall for his ongoing great coverage of the US Attorney purge scandal, including the involvement of Alberto Gonzales, Karl Rove, and the White House, in general.

Gonzo, Begone … And Take Your Pal Bush With You!
By Madeleine Begun Kane

It appears that the Bushies conspired
To ensure that some lawyers were fired,
Cause those lawyers refused
To let laws be abused.
In political crimes Bush is mired. [tags]Alberto Gonzales, Attorney General, Gonzo Gonzales,  US Attorney Purge[/tags]

Political Humor Anthology News

Monday, March 19th, 2007

Here’s some pretty cool news news! I’ve just sold two limericks and one haiku to the upcoming political humor anthology, Jest Patriotic (Let There Be Laughter Series): Hack This Limerick; Running From Mistakes; and Torture Bill Haiku.

So, who says crime … uh, I mean poetry … doesn’t pay?

The political humor anthology’s due out in May, but their money humor anthology Cash In On Laughter is already out. And I’m pleased to say that two of my money humor columns appear in that anthology, as well.

Running From Mistakes
By Madeleine Begun Kane

It’s essential to learn from mistakes
And to not place the blame on bad breaks.
If you curse lousy luck
Or try passing the buck,
Run for office. You have what it takes!  [tags]Political Mistakes, Bad Breaks, Passing The Buck, Campaign Satire, Blame Game Humor, Election Humor[/tags]

How About Campaigning For Shorter Campaigns?

Tuesday, March 13th, 2007

Presidential Election 2008 is so far off, and yet…

How About Campaigning For Shorter Campaigns? (Limerick)
By Madeleine Begun Kane

Campaigns seem to lengthen each year;
When elections are held, how I fear
That the moment polls close
We’ll be hit by new prose,
As fresh promos for hopefuls premiere. [tags]Political Animals, Election Humor, Politics Humor, Political Campaigns, Campaign Season, Permanent Campaign, Presidential Election Campaigns, Political Advertsing[/tags]

Tuesday, March 13th, 2007

If you’re not a regular reader of my other non-political humor blog, you’ve probably missed my spring limerick contest announcement.

Based on the comments some of you post here, I know some of you like writing limericks.  And if you visit here regularly, you surely must enjoy reading them. (Either that, or you’re a masochist.)

I hope you’ll consider checking out and perhaps even entering my spring limerick contest. There’s even a financial inducement — prize money for the top two submissions! [tags]Spring Limerick Contest[/tags]

Purges and Surges, Twin Scourges, Oh My!
By Madeleine Begun Kane

Dub’s prosecutorial purges
And unauthorized, bellicose surges
Have led me to think
(Though I’m far from a shrink)
What a sick way to deal with his urges! [tags]Iraq War, Prosecutor Purge, Attorney General, Bush Mental Health, Iraq Surge[/tags]

What George Bush Might Say, If He Spoke English
By Madeleine Begun Kane

You’re cowards! You’re traitors! J’accuse!
You in Congress, I’ll surge if I choose.
What power you had,
You’ve abandoned. How sad!
As always, I win and you lose.

A Waxman Haiku Is Overdue

Monday, March 5th, 2007

A Henry Waxman haiku seems overdue, so here’s my “thank you” haiku:

Why I Won’t Use What’s-Her-Name’s Name Anymore

Saturday, March 3rd, 2007

Here’s a good story about the hate-filled, bigoted venom directed at John Edwards, which was recently spewed by a person whose name I will no longer mention, because it only encourages her.  (Via the indispensable Buzzflash.)

Why I Won’t Use What’s-Her-Name’s Name Anymore
By Madeleine Begun Kane

There are wingnuts so starved for attention,
They’ll use words that you’re not s’posed  to mention,
Like that you-know-who stick
With her Edwards-slam: Sick!
So I’ve banned her to show my dissension.
