Is Newt Trying To Neutralize Sarah Palin?

Poor Newt Gingrich! Periodically, he starts feeling neglected. So he begins making noise about running for president, in order to drum up media attention.

This usually turns out to be more about peddling books than making it into the Oval Office. But this time Pat Buchanan thinks Newt is serious. Unfortunately for Newt, Buchanan also thinks Newt’s gone off the deep end with his so-called “Ground Zero Mosque” remarks:

This week, disgraced former House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R), hoping to make the case against the proposed Park51 community center, compared Muslim Americans to Nazis. On MSNBC yesterday, Pat Buchanan — yes Pat Buchanan — said Gingrich went too far.

Now being too wingnutty for Pat Buchanan is no mean feat:

It’s “absurd,” said Buchanan. “There is no valid comparison there.”

Buchanan also called Gingrich a “political opportunist” who’s trying to be “more controversial than Sarah Palin,” who would be his potential primary challenger in the 2012 presidential election.

That brings me to my latest limerick:

The ambitious Republican Newt
Once was Speaker, but then got the boot.
He so longs to be Prez
That he willingly says
Stuff Buchanan thinks mad. What a hoot!

Newt used to try to paint himself as one of the “grown-up” Republicans. So did McCain, who nowadays just doesn’t know where we got all that “maverick” jazz. Seems to bear out the old adage: Those who stand for nothing, will fall for anything.

Male privilege must be driving Newt
Why else for the ex-wife’s loud hoot?
He thinks that his [slang term for male appendage]*
    Might just do the trick
And render ol’ Sarah quite mute!

    * As obscene as Newt and Palin make our politics, I just couldn’t bring myself to stoop to their level and use the actual term.

I am speechless…something Newt & pals should try.

W could have claimed some quantum of statesmanship for himself by reaffirming the Americanness of American Muslims (as he did 9 years ago), but he seems set on missing the opportunity.

As for this slimy jerk Newt
His head has more holes than a flute
    He thinks he so smart
But he’s clever as a fart
He deserves a big sock in the snoot!

Perhaps it should be written as “Newtralizing” sort of right up there with “Nukular”. God I cringe just typing nukular.
Gingrich postures as an intellectual but parsing his speeches leaves you with a blank sheet after removal of all non facts, made up ones and outright lies. I have trouble understanding how its possible to have an audience listen to him and not start throwing rotten veggies. Or are young conservatives as incurious as they appear?
Newt is an intellectually bankrupt empty suit. A genuine representation of the “family values” mob.
