Something Wry For National Hot Pastrami Sandwich Day (January 14)

Thanks to my friend Fred Bortz, who bugged inspired me to write a limerick celebrating National Hot Pastrami Sandwich Day:

Something Wry For Pastrami Day
By Madeleine Begun Kane

It’s Pastrami Day, so I’ve been told.
Hot on rye, spread with mustard it’s sold.
Though it’s seasoned and smoked,
I simply ain’t toked
By its flavor. It just leaves me cold.

  2. brian miller says:

its funny….i did not know that, but guess what i had for lunch….hmmm….

  3. Fred Bortz says:

I enjoy hot Pastrami on rye
Much more than a non-Jewish guy.
And my taste buds to tickle,
    I add a dill pickle
And some Dr. Brown’s Cream, halevai.

    Halevai

  4. From a simple eater, I concur.

  5. Keats says:

SO relieved to see simple verse in rhyme. Sometimes I feel like I’m alone in my adherence to classic structure & form. I love the irreverence in this… And how the everyday ordinary becomes fodder for the pen… A perfect subject for the tripping pace of a Limerick, in my opinion.

  6. HisFireFly says:

    so now I’m hungry
    sliced thin, piled high!

  7. Byron Ives says:

I do love some rye and pastrami
Much more than a scythe loves a commie
    And with it for cheer
    A pitcher of beer
Or more, if I’m out and it’s balmy

Never had it. Doesn’t sound great, I’ll give it a miss.
