Limerick Ode To 10th Amendment Hypocrisy

I’m constantly running into Tenth Amendment states’ rights hypocrisy, most often concerning abortion rights and same sex marriage. Texas Governor Rick Perry is but the latest example: He’s now calling for a constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage and abortion.

Limerick Ode To 10th Amendment Hypocrisy
By Madeleine Begun Kane

Gov. Perry’s a fan of states’ rights:
10th amendment — he loves its delights.
But gay marriage? Abortion?
Please brace for contortion:
He’d smite them through federal fights.

What a choice it would be: Perry vs Obama. Sadly, I fear he might win, at least in the Electoral College count. Then it would be years of Bush on steroids. We’re doomed :)

Doomed, indeed! That’s how it feels to me.

Abortion isn’t a state issue because murder is already illegal. The Declaration of Independence says all men (people) are endowed by their Creator with the right to LIFE. The Constitution grants people (humans) the right to live. As far as gay marriage, you’re right that it would be unconstitutional to make a federal law BANNING gay marriage. But likewise, it would be unconstitutional to make a federal law LEGALIZING gay marriage. Gay marriage is nowhere in the Constitution, so the 10th Amendment declares it a state issue. Any federal law doing ANYTHING with gay marriage is against the Constitution. (In fact, the government’s being involved in STRAIGHT marriage is unconstitutional.)
