Limerick Ode To Legalized Same-Sex Marriage In New York

Congratulations to the New York State Legislature and to Governor Andrew Cuomo. Governor Cuomo promised to legalize same-sex marriage in New York and he’s somehow managed to pull it off.

I’m extra proud to be a New Yorker today!

Limerick Ode To Legalized Same-Sex Marriage In New York

Good news in New York for the gays:
They can join in our straight-wedding ways.
Same sex marriage has passed.
There’s some fairness at last.
Many thanks for those “yes” votes. Give praise!

    Good news with what New York did
    The families no longer need hid
    What ever the flavor
    all families are favored
    Thank you, from an LGBT kid.

    So now Tom is allowed to wed Harry
    And one hears a curmudgeon
    Say (in high dudgeon):

    While you think you’ve found your true treasure
    Repentance may come with your leisure.

    But the two gents paid no mind
    They’d grown a thick rind
    to the naysayers and pols
    full of strict protocols
    Said they, “tis true love is blind!”

    I am reminded of one I wrote literally decades ago, when the city of Boston refused to issue a permit to an LGBT group to participate in the St. Patrick’s Day Parade:

    A mick by the name of Fitzroy,
    Whose creed was “a boy for a boy,”
    On St. Paddy’s would walk…
    But Boston did balk
    At parading Fitzroy and his joy.

    So Fitzroy took his fellow, O’Rourke
    (Whose ****** was shaped like a fork)…
    With his multiple ****,
    And a jig and a song,
    They paraded the streets of New York!

    Houston held its annual Pride Parade (formerly “Gay Pride Parade,” but with the increasing participation of LGBTs of all flavors, they generalized the name) yesterday. As always, it was a sight to behold… all those LGBTs and Democrats in one place!
