Senator Bayh, Buh Bye!

Senator Evan Bayh (Pretend-Dem-Indiana) has announced that he won’t seek reelection this year. The conserva-Dem’s stated reason? Partisan gridlock is blocking progress.

While this is being viewed as a huge loss for Democrats and a great pick-up op for Republicans, I sure won’t miss Blue Dog Bayh. His so-called moderation and his unrelenting push for compromise with uncompromising Republicans has been a large impediment to passing progressive legislation.

And that brings me to my latest limerick:

Senator Bayh, Buh Bye!
By Madeleine Begun Kane

Sen. Bayh will not run again. Why?
Cuz there’s “not enough progress.” How wry!
He says partisanship
Is the cause. Here’s a tip:
Our problem is DINOS like Bayh.

Bayh serving the country no more
‘Cause his morale done hit the floor
    Will make us all question-
    DC indigestion?
That’s what made this DINO so sore?

Ol’ Evan is in such a tizzy
That running again made him dizzy
    Thirteen million reasons
    Provides him much pleasin’
Provided that no one gets quizzy

So why he’d continue to run
When there’s much better counts to be done?
    Ulysses, Ben, George,
    Abe, Jackson – go gorge!
A fat wallet makes you look thrifty!

So even though Congress did drag
Lots of green things wave his flag
    Is he on his way
    To go out and play
With those who killed health care, and brag?

Thanks for joining me in versifying, Realist!

  3. I have a close friend who was a high-level official in Evan Bayh’s administration when he was governor of Indiana. He has always referred to Bayh as “conservative” – and I always tacked on the addendum “for a Democrat.” I sent him an email wondering if Bayh is having difficulty reconciling his essentially centrist view with the pressure to align with his party leadership’s leftist views. I think there are a lot of Democrats that may be in that situation. The party’s leadership seems to have been taken over by socialists who have no room for differing views.

“sent him an email wondering if Bayh is having difficulty reconciling his essentially centrist view with the pressure to align with his party leadership’s leftist views.”

Bayh is a conservative, not a centrist. There are no “leftists” in the White House, Obama is centrist more than he is progressive.

You give in to the right-wing agenda of bad definitions in politics.

    @Mad Kane:

    i like your limerick!

and it is the DINOs screwing things up in Congress.

  5. You had two good submissions this week, but I’ll have to settle with the one about Voltaire.

Your “health” bill’s got insurers revvin’
    Dude, the Senate’s conserva-dem heaven!
    While you wear Dem’s apparel
    You gridlock, stock, and barrel
So c’mon — who’s got dirt on you, Evan?
