Bayh is a conservative, not a centrist. There are no “leftists” in the White House, Obama is centrist more than he is progressive.

I have a close friend who was a high-level official in Evan Bayh’s administration when he was governor of Indiana. He has always referred to Bayh as “conservative” - and I always tacked on the addendum “for a Democrat.” I sent him an email wondering if Bayh is having difficulty reconciling his essentially centrist view with the pressure to align with his party leadership’s leftist views. I think there are a lot of Democrats that may be in that situation. The party’s leadership seems to have been taken over by socialists who have no room for differing views.
