Limerick Ode To National Martini Day

Tomorrow, June 19, is National Martini Day. I figured it was best to celebrate with a limerick … before starting on that martini:

Limerick Ode To National Martini Day
By Madeleine Begun Kane

The martini’s a drink for the tough,
Cuz that cocktail is strong, sometimes rough.
Most favor it gin-filled,
Which leaves me chagrin-filled.
Use tequila instead? Won’t rebuff!

    Happy Martini Day! Ha.

Made with vodka or gin, umm delish
(But tequila’s a whole ‘nother dish)
    Ah, my drunk, misspent youth
    (Please just hold the vermouth)
When I drank like a high and dry fish.

And now they have glazed doughnut flavored vodka!!!

  3. Some gin, with a dash of vermouth,
Gives an air of being so couth.
    It just reeks upper-class
    In its conical glass,
But tastes bloody awful, in truth.

Now, I’ve made these, just as people like em. It was not my drink of choice when I did drink, but I know lots like martinis, one way or another. Do you take a drop or a wave of vermouth? :)

  9. Joe Hesch says:

Reached the half-century mark years ago, and I’ve never had a martini. If they’re as tasty as this piece, I’ve been missing the boat for too long.

Almost missed your haiku…love the thought of eventually ending up residing in a place one once admired in a postcard…and relaxing with a martini in hand in it’s yard!

Enjoy! (And enjoyed!) (The limerick, that is.) k.

Martinis are made using gin. No other spirit goes in,
Except for Vermouth. Now here’s the harsh truth:
To do otherwise is a sin!

Now vodka is fine in its place; in martinis, though, never a trace!
It’s swilled on the docks, can be used to clean clocks,
Or in cranberry juice – on the rocks.

    Cheers!
