Crazy Aunts and Other Mad Relatives (Limerick & Haiku Prompt through April 17th)

Today’s limerick and haiku theme is relatives. (Thanks to Read Write Poem’s aunt prompt, which inspired this broader theme including any family member.) First, my limerick:

Crazy Aunts
By Madeleine Begun Kane

Crazy aunt in your fam’ly? Let’s see:
Does she scoff at conventions with glee?
Fail at acting her age?
Give advice strangely sage?
In my fam’ly, the crazy aunt’s me.

And now my haiku:

He made an offer
That I just could not refuse:
Marital bliss.

Now, of course, it’s your turn. Your assignment, should you choose to accept it, is to write a limerick or haiku (or both) about a relative. When you’ve posted your verse, please return here and add a direct link to your themed poetry, using Mr. Linky. There’s no rush, by the way, because you have two whole weeks!  Why? Because I still haven’t started my tax return.

(If you need some tips on limerick or haiku writing, I link to some helpful sites here.)

UPDATE 2: I’ve just learned that July 26 is Aunt and Uncle’s Day.

  1. sister AE says:

those are both great! the first makes me giggle a lot – I am sure I’ll have time for this (since I too will be wrangling tax returns that I’ve yet to start!) so I’ll be back with poems later.

  2. I really like the limerick! Don’t get me wrong, the haiku is great, too! But the limerick…very funny!

  3. paisley says:

i am the old maiden aunt in my family too!! but i am also the wild one.. so there is a lot more said about me than by me….

  4. Tumblewords says:

Laughing. I had to make mine up. Fairly common – I make up most stuff.

  5. I love it!
“In my fam’ly, the crazy aunt’s me.”

In my family the crazy mother-grandma-sister-(and yes)-aunt would be me.

  6. Linda Jacobs says:

she scoff at conventions with glee?
Fail to act quite her age?
    Give advice strangely sage?

These are great descriptions of the aunt I visited a couple days ago! This made me smile!

Crazy aunts is an instant classic. Very fun! It’s one to be posted on the fridge.

  8. I’ll see what I can do with this one. In the meantime, here’s a POEM about a crazy aunt. I put these lines together in response to a few other prompts, as you can tell from the note at the top of the post:

CAUGHT TO THE QUICK, at Nickers and Ink

    Blessings all,

PS: I will circle back, if I can come up with a LIMERICK and/or HAIKU.
