A Tragic Limerick Ode To John McCain

If John McCain hadn’t done quite so much damage to our nation, I could almost feel sorry for him. After all, it’s hard not to pity a man who’s turned into a pathetic shell of a human being.

McCain’s Don’t Ask Don’t Tell repeal temper tantrum is only the latest example of the sad, ugly person that McCain’s become:

A Tragic Limerick Ode To John McCain
By Madeleine Begun Kane

John McCain seems embittered and mean,
Acting worse than a badly raised teen.
His convictions? No more!
Just conniptions galore.
He’s lost heart, and he’s left with just spleen.

Damn! That IS a great description of what’s happened. BUT–he should have left long ago!

One needs to know when it’s time to go
To give up the mics and the stagelights aglow
Give it up when you’re young
Don’t make others get their gun!
Leave it to those who have new ideas to show

Same with the Supremes and Congress, for sure
Lifetime and unlimited terms? NO! A just tenure!
    Founding Fathers wanted inspiration
From youth to build a young nation
New rules would mean an end when you’re mature.

Can WE get a word in edgewise here?
Or will you hold on like the rules are dear?
Get it done while in an uproar
Give us freedom to grow and soar
Your conservatism is killing us! It’s clear!

We need progress in all areas and now!
Before you and yours kill the cow!
    We know right from WRONG
    We sing a NEW song
You old guys can take a final bow.

Ditch Monsanto and oil and fracking
Give us the health care and jobs we’ve been lacking!
It only makes sense, you’ll agree
Think of your grandkids, not just me and thee!
The BEST gift we’ve gotten is Assange’s hacking.

Get out of our way, it’s a new day, it’s clear
You go home to your easy chair! Have a beer
It’s our turn to run things–you had your chance
You’ve made a real mess–now you just dance
Around the truth and monger the fear

It’s over, old man, it’s no longer your place
Take all your stuff and get out of this place
    A new day’s begun
    You’re not No. 1
You should leave while we let you save face.

Haha! That’s a marvellous limerick. I think it suits his recent political activities to a tee. How many filibusters can a man support before he loses sight of democracy???

  3. madkane says:

Thanks, Veralynne and Je Maverick! Wonderful verse, Veralynne!

    Funny and true.
Makes me ask “Why?” Why is he so desparately hanging on-
abandonning his independent, maverick attitude that made him
possibly appealing in the first place ? Backing up his mistakes
(like selecting Palin and his new political positions) as if they
    were even real.

  5. madkane says:

Thanks, Chris! I think he’s so embittered, he’s not even thinking straight. Perhaps he’s even gone over the deep end. After all he’s never been the most stable Senator. :)

Nice limericks, Mad, and Veralynne – epic!

    A Maverick: One
    Who declares independence
    From his own beliefs.

Thanks Steve! Your haiku’s very clever!
