The Definitive Bad Date
The Definitive Bad Date (Limerick)
By Madeleine Begun Kane
A salty young gal is enraged
When she learns that her date is engaged,
So she curses the fellow—
Spews hate with a bellow,
Then shoots. Guess her anger ain’t staged.
NOTE: This limerick was loosely inspired by the inaugural edition of Totally Optional Prompts, which is an outgrowth of the late, lamented Poetry Thursday.

I haven’t heard a limerick for ages and I enjoyed this, especially with its murderous twist.
I guess her rage isn’t staged. It’s uncanny how you can write so many limericks, a difficult form which I’ve tried and failed miserably. Bravo.
oh this was marvelous!!! your picture and your blog look familiar.. and i am so glad i found you again.. oh this may be a really exciting day full of renewed acquaintances… i am thrilled!!!!
laughing at both limerick and the slipping in of salt
nicely done!
“engaged…” Shot in back I guess.
Oh how I wish I was humourous…and salty for that matter. Still I’d hate to be sitting behind your date!
Hilarious! I’d love to be able to write limericks like you do!
As my limericks are real bad, I think this is good!
Thanks so much to all of you for your lovely comments. It’s especially nice to be appreciated by poets!
Great last line!
