Democrats Make Elephants Of Themselves

Avedon Carol is furious and so am I.  What are we mad about? Avedon’s must-read “Spitting Nails” sums it up much better than I could:

I gotta tell ya, I was pretty much speechless when I came home last night and discovered that 22 Democrats who didn’t have time to fight long and hard for our Constitutional rights, or to impose strong oversight and timelines on funding bills (or simply refuse to pass them), or even for our troops in the field to get reasonable breaks, were nevertheless willing to sign on to the GOP resolution to condemn for telling the truth about David Petreaus. …

The New York Times isn’t impressed by the Dems either,
lambasting Democrats in this excellent editorial:

If you were one of the Americans waiting for Congress, under Democratic control, to show leadership on the war in Iraq, the message from the Senate is clear: “Nevermind.” The same goes for those waiting for lawmakers to fix the damage done to civil liberties by six years of President Bush and a rubber-stamp Republican Congress.

The Democrats don’t have, or can’t summon, the political strength to make sure Congress does what it is supposed to do: debate profound issues like these and take a stand. …

(Though something tells me the New York Times isn’t quite angry enough to print this ad.)

And now it’s time for a limerick:

Democrats Make Elephants Of Themselves
By Madeleine Begun Kane

I keep waiting for Dems to unite
And fin’ly put up a good fight.
But they kowtow to Bush
And kiss GOP tush
Cuz, alas, they’re Republican-lite.

    Republican lite is right.

Democrats have maybe one last chance to make it right.

I’m sure you noticed that the Republican’s new BFF is Filibuster. The Rethugs have demonstrated that it only takes 42 Senators to block any legislation from being voted on. The minority is the new majority.

Well, Bush needs more billions for his wars. And while the Democrats can’t get, lets face it, ANY legislation passed, they can block any more funding of the endless occupation by filibustering.

I agree with you PoliShifter. And I dealt with the GOP’s filibuster hypocrisy here:

  3. eRobin says:

I think they’re worse than the GOP b/c the GOP is honest about continuing the occupation and obstructing the will of the American people in other ways as well. The Dems have no intention of doing what we want them to do and rely on the obstruction from the GOP but they keep holding out the hope that they are on our side.

  4. madkane says:

eRobin, I’m afraid that you may very well be right.

  5. Thomas Mc says:

I think “Republican-lite” is too generous. They have become more of a smokescreen to cover-up Republican crimes. As long as the public is conned into thinking there is an opposition party, they won’t rise up and overthrow our one-party system.

  6. JimDandy says:

So what? What are you going to do? Vote Republican? Bullshit. You’re not going to vote Republican. You’re going to vote for Hillary next year, plus whatever local DNC scumbags crawl out of the local woodwork.

Gutless peons get the government they deserve. 650,000+ dead Iraqis, 3,800 dead soldiers, the corrupt elites of both war parties and I know you aren’t going to do JACK SHIT.

    Don’t even fucking pretend.

Mad, thanks for the link. Obviously, since that post, things have, um, moved on, and now the House has made its mess outside the litter box as well. As much as I love animals, I’m just not sure I can afford to continue to keep these Democratic elephants as pets.

And today, after they passed some version of Kyl-Lieberman, another item fitting into the pattern, I’m not sure I even want to keep the name of my blog. I’m still thinking about that one.

I agree with you Steve. Every time I think things can’t get worse they do.
“Political Madness” is sounding more apt every day.
