If This Is True, My Head May Explode (Updated)

Everybody’s reporting that the Democrats have dropped withdrawal dates from the Iraq war funding bill.  If this is really true, Rachel Maddow says she’ll go insane, and so will I:

Democrats, Heal Thy Selves! (Limerick)
By Madeleine Begun Kane

The Dems disappoint once again,
Caving in to Dub’s warmong’ring yen.
Timeline’s gone from the bill.
Checks on Bush?  Nothing! Nil!
Bush says, “Heel!” and the Dems reply, “When?”

UPDATE: If you’re mad at Congress too, you can  Take the Iraq Vote Pledge here, and it will be sent to your representatives. It reads:

I pledge to vote against every Senator and Representative who approves funding to continue the disastrous Iraq War.

We have already given far too much of our blood and treasure – and killed far too many Iraqis – for a war based on lies. We are now occupying a hostile nation divided by civil war for the benefit of military contractors and Big Oil.

The only way to support our troops is to bring them home NOW, and no funds should be used for any other purpose. If Congress fails to bring our troops home, I will do everything I can – and urge everyone I know – to defeat pro-war Senators and Representatives, both in my party’s primary elections and in the November general election.

Sad but true, Mad. Sad but true. As an elderly German-American friend of mine used to say, knowing full well she was playing with the words, “I is regusted.” And so I am. Is there no one who represents us in Washington now?

Thanks for your comment, Steve. I’m am sooooooooooooooo depressed!

It might help to stop thinking like an adolescent–conceiving everything in terms of black and white, courage vs. cowardice, and then freaking out at the slightest setback.

One of my own Senators, Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) voted in favor of the Capitulation Bill. So what am I supposed to do next time she’s up for reelection? Assuming she wins the primary, I can vote for her, or I can vote for her Republican opponent (who’s likely to be more pro-war than she is), or I can throw away my vote on a third-party candidate.

Due to the way our electoral system works, if I vote for a third-party candidate, that benefits whichever of the two major candidates I like least. (Think about Nader in 2000.)

I voted against Feinstein in the 2006 primary, and I’ll likely do so again in 2012, but I see no good options for the general election.

Keith Thompson: “Think about Nader in 2000.”

Well, I do think about that. I know that Nader did not cost Gore the election — Bush stole the election. And in my home state of Indiana, voting for Nader did no harm whatsoever. It’s interesting that party hacks are *still* fuming over Nader in 2000, even though that line has been discredited for so many years.

Hey Madeleine Kane you think that the dems are just a bunch of pussy’s.
Well I would like to see you stand up for your principles with Bush.
Dammed if you do dammed if you don’t pres. It is so easy to blame the Dems.
It is like getting run over multiple times and not getting a scratch on your body, bush is just a Dummy. He will do what he will do and dam anybody else, he is just like a broken record, the only thing you do with them is to throw it out. maybe if there were different people leading this nation we would have a time line. So why don’t you just take a walk in the Dem’s shoes and then answer your own statement
