Almost everyone who&#8217;s  been throwing around the <strong>&#8220;death panel&#8221;<\/strong> epithet used to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thenation.com\/blogs\/notion\/462437\/breaking_rush_newt_and_sarah_supported_death_panels_too\">have a very different opinion of end-of-life-care planning<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p>1) Back in her half-term as Alaska governor, Sarah Palin spoke out for advance healthcare directives in her 2008 Healthcare Decision Day Proclamation.<\/p>\n<p>2) Rush Limbaugh enthusiastically read ad copy championing LegalZoom.com, whose services include do-it-yourself living wills.  <\/p>\n<p>3) Newt Gingrich recently advocated for advance directives (end-of-life planning) in his July 2nd Washington Post column.<\/p>\n<p>4) Most Senate and House Republicans <a href=\" http:\/\/www.washingtonmonthly.com\/archives\/individual\/2009_08\/019488.php\">voted to fund  counseling for end-of-life issues and care<\/a> in George W. Bush&#8217;s 2003 Medicare prescription drug bill.<\/p>\n<p>And that brings me to my latest limerick:<\/p>\n<p>Republicans Were For &#8220;Death Panels&#8221; Before They Were Against Them<br \/>\nBy Madeleine Begun Kane<\/p>\n<p>Dear Sarah and Limbaugh and Newt,<br \/>\nPut your &#8220;death panel&#8221; nonsense on mute.<br \/>\nCuz you once were big fans<br \/>\nOf end-of-life plans.<br \/>\nWere they &#8220;death panels&#8221; too?
