Limerick Ode To Smear-Meister Mitt Romney

Your average politician, when caught and called on a blatant lie, will stop repeating it. But not Mitt Romney.

Mitt’s welfare-related smear, claiming Obama has ended welfare’s work mandates is indisputably false, having been famously debunked three weeks ago. And yet Romney still won’t stop repeating it in speeches and using it in fresh ads.

Limerick Ode To Smear-Meister Mitt Romney
By Madeleine Begun Kane

For Romney, the truth holds no sway,
As his lies mount up day after day.
Welfare, health care and tax—
With the facts he is lax,
Treating voters like ignorant prey.

A man of God lying his ass off. I guess Mormons, who are not true Jesus loving born again saved Christians, are exempt from bearing false witness :)

  2. Especially after David Rakoff’s death, we can use as much accessible poetry as we can get. I hope the following “Republican Response” to your limerick works:

I don’t know why you are here bitchin’
‘Bout all of the lies of poor Mitten
    It’s just that he’ll say
    Something different each day
You should be bare foot in the kitchen!

Sadly, I could not squeeze in “pregnant” and “legitimate rape”…

Hansi, over the years I’ve met a lot of “very religious” people of various religions who were “holier than thou” liars. It’s one of the many reasons I’m anti-religion.

Frankly Curious, thanks for joining in with your political verse!

  4. Mugsy says:

Romney continues to repeat this particular lie because it plays into the Right-Wing belief that “the black president is out to give poor black lazy welfare recipients all of *your* money.”

  5. madkane says:

    Well said, Mugsy.

  6. Romney sounds like a total dick. I want him to read this….we are getting old coverage of the US political race here in the UK….I actually wouldn’t even entertain the thought of voting for anyone else but Obama….he seems to have his head screwed on and isn’t talking about ‘legitimate rape’….good on you Mad Kane- love your satire as always

  7. madkane says:

    Thanks so much Stu!

  8. brian miller says:

if this is his tactic now, what makes you think he will be any different if he gets into office…you know…

  9. madkane says:

    Exactly, Brian!

  10. Speaking from the Christian Left, and yes, there is one, Pres. Obama is the only real Protestant in the race. Ryan and Biden are Catholic and Romney is Mormon, a real distinction from Protestants. Ryan is an elitist “white is right” pig; Biden makes awful gaffes and I wish Obama would replace him on the ticket – Biden’s time has passed. As for Romney AND his wife (my sister told me I’m not to say anything bad about Ann because she has MS. I told her one can still have MS and be a dimwit), they can kiss my Irish sundown.

Are we going to VOTE? Are we going to REGISTER PEOPLE and ensure they have the stupid disenfranchising voter ID? These are the real questions, and I ask it of the Tea Party as much as the Left.

Speaking as an agnostic Jew, I don’t care what religion anyone is, as long as their policies are decent and they aren’t obnoxious zealots. :)

  12. Mary says:

I have seen so much mudslinging coming from both sides, so many untruths spoken by both sides. I just don’t get what has happend to respect by both sides. I don’t expect it to get better until after the election and who knows if it will change then. It truly is disheartening.

  13. Karen Maeby says:

I just don’t understand why people lie. It’s not exactly sugar coated and helpful if the proof is there to prove the guilted innocent. Why keep repeating it and digging yourself deeper?! Ugh!

    Good one!

  14. Manicddaily says:

Wonderful limerick. There seem to be more smears than ever. And people act like it’s both sides, but I think it really is more on the Republican side–I don’t know how people can be so apathetic, but they are worn out, I guess. k.

  15. madkane says:

Thanks so much for your kind and thoughtful comments Manic, Karen, and Mary!

  16. zongrik says:

could the republicans have chosen a worse candidate? well, i guess they could…

  17. MrsSmeej says:

As usual, Mad Kane is right.
But, sadly, most people aren’t bright.
    They’ll vote for the guy
    Who tells the best lie.
Alas, for the smart voter’s plight.

For they are regarded with fear
Aware of what people don’t hear
    And trying to warn
    Are greeted with scorn
    When asking positions be clear.

  18. Patti says:

“Treating voters like ignorant prey.” I pray they don’t prove him right.

  19. vivinfrance says:

Are there any rational, intelligent, caring politicians anywhere in the world? Any politicians without monstrous egos? Are all voters sheep to be led willy nilly? Down with politics!

  20. madkane says:

Thanks so much everyone for your kind and thoughtful comments. And thanks so much MrsSmeej for your fun verse!
