Pondering Rudy

I live in New York City, so I’m pretty familiar with the pros and cons of Rudy Giuliani. And yes, there are pros.  What pros?  Well, Rudy does love opera.

And as ornery, self-centered, and first amendment-hating as Rudy was during his New York City Mayor years, he never struck me as being insane. Yet his current outsized hawkishness does seem … well … crazy. So I can’t help wondering whether Rudy’s crazed warmongering is real or a ruse.  (Not that I want to find out, of course.)

Pondering Rudy (Limerick)
By Madeleine Begun Kane

Rudy acts like a war-loving crank.
Is his hawkishness feigned, else he’ll tank
As Republicans see
That he doesn’t agree
With most of the GOP plank?[tags]Rudy Giuliani Humor, GOP Hawks, New York City Mayors[/tags]

Completely OT, but about November, and keeping in mind Ann C.’s actually correct admonishment that haiku must be seasonal (there is another term in Japanese for non-seasonal poems of the same 17-syllable form, but I can’t recall it at the moment), here is one I wrote 10 years ago (my first one, actually, a reworking as I couldn’t find the thing, and an improvement over the original) :

    November leaves whirl
    wind-caught gold-red at sunset;
    carp flash in sky’s pond.

OK–after that digression, here’s a less than fullblooded example of Rudy poesis

Rudy gave blood for the GOP.
As America’s mayor, the firemen’s ‘hero’,
    assessed at zero,
he bled out for thee and me.

It does explain for all to see,
    his cadaver-ish physiognomy.

  3. NoOneYouKnow says:

It’s a front, yes, but he’d go to war in a second if he thought it would benefit him or his friends. Rudy’s not completely nuts, but he is evil.

Yes Rudy is evil, and not a very good liar either. Remember when he was caught in the lie about being told the Twin Towers were “gonna collapse”? He said it in an interview, and when he was approached by a 9/11 victim who confronted him about it, he repeatedly denied having said it.

Then consider this: People in the reality-based community should have no problem whatsoever in realizing that the uppermost portion of a skyscraper is not going to be able to “fall” into and THROUGH the remaining vast majority of solid building as quickly, meaning as effortlessly as falling through air without something else (i.e. explosives) reducing said majority of building to such a state of offering no more resistance than air. Can we all agree on that? Sounds pretty straightforward; solid things offer vastly more resistance than air. Anyone who graduated elementary school SHOULD be able to grasp this, and SHOULD be able to therefore grasp that the Twin Towers and WTC # 7 building had to have been controlled demolitions. It is literally COMMON SENSE.

  6. […] Has anyone ever considered that Madeleine Begun Kane is not “a recovering lawyer” (as she claims), but some kind of satirical poesy uber-cyborg? Because she’s out there every week, cranking out the poetic parody: SCHIP Haiku, AND Pondering Rudy. […]
