It’s time to announce the latest Limerick of the Week based on submissions (on this blog and on Facebook) in last week’s Limerick-Off.<\/a> (This limerick challenge apparently got you all fired up because your submissions were unusually strong.) I’m very pleased to announce the winning Limerick of the Week and the Honorable Mentions:<\/p>\n

Congratulations to ALTONIAN <\/a>who wins Limerick of the Week for this very clever verse:<\/p>\n

A fellow was playing with fire
\nWhen asked to milk cows in the byre.
\nHe gave a great pull.
\n‘Twas no cow but a bull.
\nThat’s how you end up in the mire.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

And congratulations to these Honorable Mention winners (in random order) Johanna Richmond, David Lefkovits a\/k\/a Dr. Goose<\/a>, Jane Shelton Hoffman, and Altonian<\/a>. Here are their respective Honorable Mention limericks:<\/p>\n

\nThough she turned up the heat
\nSex was strictly Dutch Treat;

Old Midas was playing with fire
\nBy insulting the guy on the lyre;
\nWhen that guy is Apollo,
\nBest shut up and follow
\nOr donkey ears you shall acquire. <\/p><\/blockquote>\n

David Lefkovits a\/k\/a Dr. Goose:<\/p>\n

A fellow was playing with fire
\nIn transferring money by wire
\nIn hundreds of G’s
\nTo a bank in Belize,
\nWhere he secretly hoped to retire.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Jane Shelton Hoffman:<\/p>\n

\nA fellow was playing with fire
\nAnd burned down the church in his shire.
\nWhen Robin Hood came,
\nHe said, “I’m not to blame!
\nIt must have been your friend, the friar!”\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Altonian: (A double win for Altonian too)<\/p>\n

A woman was playing with fire
\nWhen she thought she was all men’s desire.
\nShe tried vamping one day
\nWith a man who was gay
\nIt was easy for him to deny her.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
