And that means I write a limerick, and you write your own, using the same first line. Then you post your limerick here and, if you\u2019re a Facebook user, on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/madkane\/posts\/214985118529152\">Facebook too<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The best submission will be crowned Limerick Of The Week. (Here\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.madkane.com\/humor_blog\/2011\/05\/01\/limerick-of-the-week-7\/\">last week\u2019s Limerick Of The Week Winner plus four Honorable Mentions<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p>How will your poems be judged? By meter, rhyme, and cleverness. (If you\u2019re feeling a bit fuzzy about limerick writing rules, here are two excellent resources: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.oedilf.com\/wiki\/index.php\/Writing_a_Limerick\">OEDILF on Writing A Limerick<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/speedysnail.com\/limericks\/metre.html\">Speedy Snail\u2019s Limerick Rhythm and Meter<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ll announce the Limerick of the Week Winner right before I post next week\u2019s Limerick-Off. So that gives you a full week to submit your clever, polished verse.<\/p>\n<p>I hope you\u2019ll join me in writing a limerick with this first line:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>A gal had to cancel her plan&#8230;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>or<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>A man had to cancel his plan&#8230;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Here\u2019s mine. (It\u2019s a two-verse limerick, but a standard one-verser will be fine, of course.)<\/p>\n<p>Spurned Limerick<br \/>\nBy Madeleine Begun Kane<\/p>\n<p>A gal had to cancel her plan<br \/>\nTo marry a very cute man.<br \/>\nHe spurned her advances,<br \/>\nIgnored all her glances &#8212;<br \/>\n&#8216;Twas over before it began.<\/p>\n<p>She was angry and wanted him dead &#8212;<br \/>\nDreamt of murder while lying in bed.<br \/>\nNow at last he&#8217;s been killed<br \/>\nAnd those thoughts have been stilled,<br \/>\nFor that fellow was all in her head.<\/p>\n<p>Please feel free to write your own limerick using the same first line and post it in my comments.
