Digital Impasse

My brain is packed with secret codes
\nTo access all my stuff,
\nLike bank accounts and sundry cards.
\nRecalling them is rough.<\/p>\n

I pay my bills online and need
\nA PIN for each of those.
\nMy website has a password too,
\nProtecting verse and prose.<\/p>\n

These letters, numbers, symbols mix
\nIn ways to stave off theft.
\nWe’re warned to make them quite complex,
\nDefeating hackers deft.<\/p>\n

We’re also cautioned, “Vary them.
\nDon’t make your codes the same.
\nA thief gets hold of only one —
\nYou’re screwed and you’re to blame.”<\/p>\n

So ciphers clutter up my mind.
\nI dare not write them down.
\nWith paper bearing secrets dear,
\nA thief could go to town.<\/p>\n

I’m forced to hide them in my brain —
\nA codified morass,
\nDespite my fear that one day soon
\nThey’ll flee my mind en masse.<\/p>\n
