Me neither. And if you feel compelled to celebrate waffles twice each year, National Waffle Day and the waffle iron patent are celebrated on August 24th. <\/p>\n<p>So why am I telling you this? Because I&#8217;m obediently rising to the challenge of <a href=\"http:\/\/cloakedmonk.com\/2011\/03\/24\/march-25-breakfast\/\">writing a poem about breakfast<\/a>.  And I stumbled upon all this waffle nonsense while doing some poetic procrastination.  <\/p>\n<p>*****<\/p>\n<p>Ode to Breakfast<br \/>\nBy Madeleine Begun Kane<\/p>\n<p>Oatmeal breaks my fast<br \/>\nwhen I arise,<br \/>\nthough it tastes like paste<br \/>\nin breakfast guise.<\/p>\n<p>Why not something else<br \/>\nI don&#8217;t despise?<br \/>\nCuz I hate each choice<br \/>\nthose chefs devise.<\/p>\n<p>Waffles, eggs, French toast<br \/>\ngrits &#8212; some may prize.<br \/>\nBut hot oatmeal&#8217;s quick.<br \/>\nSo enough with the &#8220;whys.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>*****<\/p>\n<p>While I&#8217;m at it, here&#8217;s a haiku about my favorite morning (and afternoon and pretty much all day) beverage:<\/p>\n<p>Coffee never tempts,<br \/>\nbut denied cappuccino<br \/>\nthen call me verklempt.<\/p>\n<p>*****<\/p>\n<p><strong>UPDATE:<\/strong> October 29 is National Oatmeal Day.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Did you know that today, March 25th, is International Waffle Day?
