It\u2019s Limerick-Off time, once again. And that means I write a limerick, and you write your own, using the same rhyme word. Then you post your limerick(s) as a comment to this post and, if you\u2019re a Facebook user, on Facebook too.<\/a><\/p>\n

I hope you\u2019ll join me in writing limericks using SALE or SAIL at the end of ANY ONE LINE.<\/strong> (A homonym or homophone not listed here may be used in lieu of the designated rhyme word.)<\/p>\n

The best submission will be crowned Limerick-Off Award Winner. Here’s the last contest’s winners list.<\/a><\/p>\n

Additionally,<\/strong> you may write themed limericks<\/strong> related to GOSSIP, using any rhyme word.<\/strong> And of course I\u2019ll present an extra award \u2014 one for the best <\/span>GOSSIP<\/strong>-related limerick.<\/span><\/p>\n

And for a THIRD SEPARATE CHALLENGE,<\/strong> I\u2019ve used a \u201cRandom Word Generator\u201d to generate five random words.<\/strong> Your challenge is to use AT LEAST TWO<\/strong> of the Random Words anywhere in your limericks.<\/p>\n

Here are the FIVE RANDOM WORDS for this contest: CLASS, CATCH, FLASHY, STARE, GAIN.<\/strong><\/p>\n

(You\u2019re free to singularize\/pluralize the designated random nouns and to change the tense of the designated random verbs. You can even turn adjectives in adverbs and vice versa. And you are NOT required to use any of them as rhyme words, as long as at least two of the words appear somewhere in your limericks.)<\/strong><\/p>\n

How will your poems be judged? By meter, rhyme, cleverness, and humor. (If you\u2019re feeling a bit fuzzy about limerick writing rules, here’s my How To Write A Limerick<\/em><\/a> article.)<\/p>\n

I\u2019ll announce the winners on December 11, 2022,<\/strong> right before I post the next Limerick-Off. So that gives you FOUR full weeks<\/strong> to submit your clever, polished verse. Your submission deadline is Saturday, December 10, 2022 at 4:00 p.m. <\/strong> (Eastern Time.)<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s my SALE or SAIL-Rhyme Limerick:<\/p>\n

Playing Wordle, for me, is a sport,
\nThough it doesn’t use balls or a court,
\nAnd it fails to entail
\nRacing skills, or a sail.
\n(I am more of a “sitting down” sort.)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

And here\u2019s my GOSSIP-Themed Limerick:<\/p>\n

A gal who was known for her chutzpah
\nOwned a pricey and popular foot spa.
\nBut she gossiped about
\nEv’ry foot-fetish lout,
\nSo alas it’s become a kaput spa.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

And here is my RANDOM WORD GENERATOR Limerick:<\/p>\n

In class, I expelled a loud yawn.
\n(Its eight o’clock start felt like dawn.)
\nI stared at the clock
\nAnd got caught. Said Prof Locke,
\n“Bored? Then leave!” In a flash, I was gone.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
