It\u2019s Limerick-Off time, once again. And that means I write a limerick, and you write your own, using the same rhyme word. Then you post your limerick(s) as a comment to this post and, if you\u2019re a Facebook user, on Facebook too.<\/a><\/p>\n

I hope you\u2019ll join me in writing limericks using CHIP at the end of ANY ONE LINE.<\/strong> (A homonym or homophone not listed here may be used in lieu of the designated rhyme word.)<\/p>\n

The best submission will be crowned Limerick-Off Award Winner. (Here\u2019s last week\u2019s Limerick-Off Award Winner.)<\/a><\/p>\n

Additionally,<\/strong> you may write themed limericks<\/strong> related to RELAXATION, using any rhyme word.<\/strong> And of course I\u2019ll present an extra award \u2014 one for the best RELAXATION<\/strong>-related limerick.<\/p>\n

And for a THIRD SEPARATE CHALLENGE,<\/strong> I\u2019ve used a \u201cRandom Word Generator\u201d to generate five random words.<\/strong> Your challenge is to use AT LEAST TWO<\/strong> of the Random Words anywhere in your limericks.<\/p>\n

Here are the FIVE RANDOM WORDS for this contest: DEFECT, SMART, VOICE, SHAME, TASTE.<\/strong><\/p>\n

(You\u2019re free to singularize\/pluralize the designated random nouns and to change the tense of the designated random verbs. You can even turn adjectives in adverbs and vice versa. And you are NOT required to use any of them as rhyme words, as long as at least two of the words appear somewhere in your limericks.)<\/strong><\/p>\n

How will your poems be judged? By meter, rhyme, cleverness, and humor. (If you\u2019re feeling a bit fuzzy about limerick writing rules, here’s my How To Write A Limerick<\/em><\/a> article.)<\/p>\n

I\u2019ll announce the winners on September 18, 2022,<\/strong> right before I post the next Limerick-Off. So that gives you FOUR full weeks<\/strong> to submit your clever, polished verse. Your submission deadline is Saturday, September 17, 2022 at 4:00 p.m.<\/strong> (Eastern Time.)<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s my CHIP-rhyme limerick: <\/p>\n

A fellow who thought he was hip
\nAnd who bragged he’d invented a chip,
\nWould attempt to act cool,
\nBut look like a fool;
\nTelltale chip-crumbs bespeckled his lip.\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Here\u2019s my RELAXATION-themed limerick:<\/p>\n

\nA man was attempting to chill,
\nBut his debt worries made him feel ill.
\nAnd all of his tries
\nTo relax were unwise
\nCuz they further inflated his bill.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

And here is my RANDOM WORDS GENERATOR limerick:<\/p>\n

With podcasts I’m highly selective;
\nSomething witty and smart’s my objective.
\nPlus I must clear my choice
\nWith my ears. If the voice
\nIs high-pitched, it’s, alas, deemed “defective.”<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
