It\u2019s Limerick-Off time, once again. And that means I write a limerick, and you write your own, using the same rhyme word. Then you post your limerick(s) as a comment to this post and, if you\u2019re a Facebook user, on Facebook too.<\/a><\/p>\n

I hope you\u2019ll join me in writing limericks using PLATE at the end of ANY ONE LINE.<\/strong> (A homonym or homophone not listed here may be used in lieu of the designated rhyme word.)<\/p>\n

The best submission will be crowned Limerick-Off Award Winner. (Here\u2019s last week\u2019s Limerick-Off Award Winner.<\/a>)<\/p>\n

Additionally,<\/strong> you may write CRAFT-themed limericks<\/strong> using any rhyme word. And of course I\u2019ll present an extra award \u2014 one for the best CRAFT<\/strong>-related limerick.<\/p>\n

And for a THIRD SEPARATE CHALLENGE,<\/strong> I\u2019ve used a \u201cRandom Word Generator\u201d to generate five random words.<\/strong> Your challenge is to use AT LEAST TWO<\/strong> of these Random Words anywhere in your limericks: COMPLAINT CELL FORBID QUIRKY BOIL.<\/strong><\/p>\n

(You\u2019re free to singularize\/pluralize the designated random words and to change the tense of the designated random verbs. You can even turn adjectives into adverbs and vice versa. And you are NOT required to use any of them as rhyme words.)<\/strong><\/p>\n

How will your poems be judged? By meter, rhyme, cleverness, and humor. (If you\u2019re feeling a bit fuzzy about limerick writing rules, here’s my How To Write A Limerick<\/em><\/a> article.)<\/p>\n

I\u2019ll announce the winners on July 24, 2022,<\/strong> right before I post the next Limerick-Off. So that gives you FOUR full weeks<\/strong> to submit your clever, polished verse. Your submission deadline is Saturday, July 23, 2022 at 4:00 p.m. <\/strong> (Eastern Time.)<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s my PLATE-rhyme limerick: <\/p>\n

\nA slacker was caught as he ate,
\nBy the boss, who was rather irate.
\nHis response, when reproved
\nFor blown deadlines? Unmoved:
\n“Not my fault! I’ve too much on my plate.”<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

And here\u2019s my CRAFT-themed limerick:<\/p>\n

\nA ship-wrecked young man on a raft
\nFelt sev’ral strong wind gusts abaft.
\nHe cursed his bad luck,
\nHis life run amok,
\nAnd the death of his rickety craft.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

And here is my RANDOM WORDS GENERATOR Limerick:<\/p>\n

I’m sick of my cell phone co’s quirks.
\nIts service employees are jerks.
\nWhen I called to complain,
\nTheir response was insane:
