It\u2019s Limerick-Off time, once again. And that means I write a limerick, and you write your own, using the same rhyme word. Then you post your limerick(s) as a comment to this post and, if you\u2019re a Facebook user, on Facebook too.<\/a><\/p>\n

I hope you\u2019ll join me in writing limericks using SHOW at the end of ANY ONE LINE.<\/strong> (A homonym or homophone not listed here may be used in lieu of the designated rhyme word.)<\/p>\n

The best submission will be crowned Limerick-Off Award Winner. (Here\u2019s last week\u2019s Limerick-Off Award Winner.<\/a>)<\/p>\n

Additionally,<\/strong> you may write themed limericks<\/strong> related to TRICKS, using any rhyme word.<\/strong> And of course I\u2019ll present an extra award \u2014 one for the best TRICKS<\/strong>-related limerick.<\/p>\n

And for a THIRD SEPARATE CHALLENGE,<\/strong> I\u2019ve used a \u201cRandom Word Generator\u201d to generate five random words.<\/strong> Your challenge is to use AT LEAST TWO<\/strong> of the Random Words anywhere in your limericks.<\/p>\n

Here are the FIVE RANDOM WORDS for this contest:
\nFAIL LOUD POP LAWYER SACK<\/strong><\/p>\n

(You\u2019re free to singularize\/pluralize the designated random nouns and to change the tense of the designated random verbs. You can even turn adjectives in adverbs and vice versa. And you are NOT required to use any of them as rhyme words, as long as at least two of the words appear somewhere in your limericks.)<\/strong><\/p>\n

How will your poems be judged? By meter, rhyme, cleverness, and humor. (If you\u2019re feeling a bit fuzzy about limerick writing rules, here’s my How To Write A Limerick<\/em><\/a> article.)<\/p>\n

I\u2019ll announce the winners on June 26, 2022,<\/strong> right before I post the next Limerick-Off. So that gives you four full weeks<\/strong> to submit your clever, polished verse. Your submission deadline is Saturday, June 25, 2022 at 4:00 p.m. <\/strong> (Eastern Time.)<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s my SHOW-rhyme limerick: <\/p>\n

Though my recall is poor, I don’t mind,
\nCuz forgetting can sometimes be kind:
\nIt might “freshen” a show,
\nWhose plot I should know
\nFrom a book that my mem’ry can’t find.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

And here\u2019s my TRICKS-themed limerick:<\/p>\n

\nA magician was stressed out and sick.
\nHe needed a remedy — quick:
\n“I can’t cancel my show!
\nIt’s sold out — ev’ry row.”
\nA massage and Bordeaux did the trick.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

And here is my RANDOM WORDS GENERATOR Limerick:<\/p>\n

A lawyer’s been working non-stop
\nTo defend an old fellow — a cop.
\nBut alas, he has failed,
\nAnd the cop is now jailed.
\nWorst of all, that old cop is his pop.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
