It\u2019s Limerick-Off time, once again. And that means I write a limerick, and you write your own, using the same rhyme word. Then you post your limerick(s) as a comment to this post and, if you\u2019re a Facebook user, on Facebook too.<\/a><\/p>\n

I hope you\u2019ll join me in writing limericks using DEEDS or MISDEEDS at the end of ANY ONE LINE.<\/strong> (A homonym or homophone not listed here may be used in lieu of the designated rhyme word.)<\/p>\n

The best submission will be crowned Limerick-Off Award Winner. (Here\u2019s last week\u2019s Limerick-Off Award Winner.<\/a>)<\/p>\n

Additionally,<\/strong> you may write themed limericks<\/strong> related to INVENTIONS, using any rhyme word.<\/strong> And of course I\u2019ll present an extra award \u2014 one for the best INVENTION<\/strong>-related limerick.<\/p>\n

How will your poems be judged? By meter, rhyme, cleverness, and humor. (If you\u2019re feeling a bit fuzzy about limerick writing rules, here’s my How To Write A Limerick<\/em><\/a> article.)<\/p>\n

I\u2019ll announce the winners on May 15, 2022,<\/strong> right before I post the next Limerick-Off. So that gives you two full weeks<\/strong> to submit your clever, polished verse. Your submission deadline is Saturday, May 14, 2022 at 4:00 p.m. <\/strong> (Eastern Time.)<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s my DEEDS or MISDEEDS-rhyme limerick: <\/p>\n

\nA bomber (uncaught) is aghast:
\nHe’d been certain his freedom would last.
\nBut some fresh cold-case leads
\nTo his evil misdeeds
\nMean a trial for a blast from the past.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

And here\u2019s my INVENTIONS-themed limerick:<\/p>\n

\nWhen informed his design was unsound,
\nAn inventor’s distress was profound:
\n“The unfairness is blatant!
\nTheir bias is patent!
\nMy grinder has broken new ground!”<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
