It\u2019s Limerick-Off time, once again. And that means I write a limerick, and you write your own, using the same rhyme word. Then you post your limerick(s) as a comment to this post and, if you\u2019re a Facebook user, on Facebook too.<\/a><\/p>\n

I hope you\u2019ll join me in writing limericks using STRAIN at the end of any one line.<\/strong> (Homonyms or homophones are fine.)<\/p>\n

The best submission will be crowned Limerick-Off Award Winner. (Here\u2019s last week\u2019s Limerick-Off Award Winner.)<\/a><\/p>\n

Additionally,<\/strong> you may write themed limericks<\/strong> related to LINES, using any rhyme word.<\/strong> And of course I\u2019ll present an extra award \u2014 one for the best LINES<\/strong>-related limerick.<\/p>\n

How will your poems be judged? By meter, rhyme, cleverness, and humor. (If you\u2019re feeling a bit fuzzy about limerick writing rules, here’s my How To Write A Limerick<\/em><\/a> article.)<\/p>\n

I\u2019ll announce the winners on March 20, 2022,<\/strong> right before I post the next Limerick-Off. So that gives you two full weeks<\/strong> to submit your clever, polished verse. Your submission deadline is Saturday, March 19, 2022 at 4:00 p.m. <\/strong> (Eastern Time.)<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s my STRAIN-rhyme limerick: <\/p>\n

\nFriends were hoping to fly to Port Blair
\nTo visit some relatives there.
\nBut the new Covid strain
\nHas them worried again,
\nSo their plans are all up in the air.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

And here\u2019s my LINES-themed limerick:<\/p>\n

\nHere’s something that makes me see red:
\nA rest’rant with only one head.
\nLong lines for the john
\nWhile we’re eating? Come on!
\nI’m fed up! We’ll dine elsewhere instead.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
