It\u2019s Limerick-Off time, once again. And that means I write a limerick, and you write your own, using the same rhyme word. Then you post your limerick(s) as a comment to this post and, if you\u2019re a Facebook user, on Facebook too.<\/a><\/p>\n

I hope you\u2019ll join me in writing limericks using WEAR or WHERE or WARE or BEWARE or AWARE at the end of any one line.<\/strong> (Homonyms or homophones are fine.)<\/p>\n

The best submission will be crowned Limerick-Off Award Winner. (Here\u2019s last week\u2019s Limerick-Off Award Winner.)<\/a><\/p>\n

Additionally,<\/strong> you may write themed limericks<\/strong> related to SHORTAGES, using any rhyme word.<\/strong> And of course I\u2019ll present an extra award \u2014 one for the best SHORTAGE<\/strong>-related limerick.<\/p>\n

How will your poems be judged? By meter, rhyme, cleverness, and humor. (If you\u2019re feeling a bit fuzzy about limerick writing rules, here’s my How To Write A Limerick<\/em><\/a> article.)<\/p>\n

I\u2019ll announce the winners on February 20, 2022,<\/strong> right before I post the next Limerick-Off. So that gives you two full weeks<\/strong> to submit your clever, polished verse. Your submission deadline is Saturday, February 19, 2022 at 4:00 p.m. <\/strong> (Eastern Time.)<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s my WEAR or WHERE or WARE or BEWARE or AWARE-rhyme limerick, which happens to be an ACROSTIC Limerick: <\/p>\n

\nS<\/strong>ometimes gals have a “je ne sais quoi.”
\nT<\/strong>heir \u201clook\u201d is the flip-side of blah.
\nY<\/strong>ou\u2019ll be tempted to stare.
\nL<\/strong>eering\u2019s bad, though. Beware!
\nE<\/strong>schew cheering. \u201cHurrah?\u201d How bourgeois!<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

And here\u2019s my SHORTAGE-themed limerick:<\/p>\n

\nI went shopping for something to eat.
\nWith chicken and fish they’re replete.
\nThey have plenty of peas,
\nAnd all manner of cheese,
\nBut they really should beef up their meat.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
