It\u2019s Limerick-Off time, once again. And that means I write a limerick, and you write your own, using the same rhyme word. Then you post your limerick(s) as a comment to this post and, if you\u2019re a Facebook user, on Facebook too.<\/a><\/p>\n

I hope you\u2019ll join me in writing limericks using QUEST or REQUEST or BEQUEST at the end of any one line.<\/strong> (Homonyms or homophones are fine.)<\/p>\n

The best submission will be crowned Limerick-Off Award Winner. (Here\u2019s last week\u2019s Limerick-Off Award Winner<\/a>.)<\/p>\n

Additionally,<\/strong> you may write themed limericks<\/strong> related to TIMING, using any rhyme word.<\/strong> And of course I\u2019ll present an extra award \u2014 one for the best TIMING<\/strong>-related limerick.<\/p>\n

How will your poems be judged? By meter, rhyme, cleverness, and humor. (If you\u2019re feeling a bit fuzzy about limerick writing rules, here’s my How To Write A Limerick<\/em><\/a> article.)<\/p>\n

I\u2019ll announce the winners on June 27, 2021,<\/strong> right before I post the next Limerick-Off. So that gives you two full weeks<\/strong> to submit your clever, polished verse. Your submission deadline is Saturday, June 26, 2021 at 4:00 p.m. <\/strong> (Eastern Time.)<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s my QUEST or REQUEST or BEQUEST-rhyme two-verse limerick: <\/p>\n

\nA man was consumed and obsessed
\nWith his passionate study of EST.
\nHe threatened divorce
\nIn order to force
\nHis spouse to embrace the same quest.<\/p>\n

His wife in response said, “You’re mad!
\nAnd that fad’s turned you into a cad.
\nIt’s controlling your mind.
\nWe’re no longer aligned.
\nQuit that cult, or I’ll marry your dad.”<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

And here\u2019s my TIMING-themed limerick:<\/p>\n

\nA pianist who hailed from Venango
\nWas teaching while munching a mango.
\n“Your timing is off,”
\nShe said with a scoff:
\n“It’s a waltz in 3\/8; NOT a tango!”<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
