It\u2019s Limerick-Off time, once again. And that means I write a limerick, and you write your own, using the same rhyme word. Then you post your limerick(s) as a comment to this post and, if you\u2019re a Facebook user, on Facebook too.<\/a><\/p>\n

I hope you\u2019ll join me in writing limericks using SUIT\/PURSUIT at the end of any one line.<\/strong> (Homonyms or homophones are fine.)<\/p>\n

The best submission will be crowned Limerick-Off Award Winner. (Here\u2019s last week\u2019s Limerick-Off Award Winner<\/a>.)<\/p>\n

Additionally,<\/strong> you may write themed limericks<\/strong> related to NEIGHBORS, using any rhyme word.<\/strong> And of course I\u2019ll present an extra award \u2014 one for the best NEIGHBOR<\/strong>-related limerick.<\/p>\n

How will your poems be judged? By meter, rhyme, cleverness, and humor. (If you\u2019re feeling a bit fuzzy about limerick writing rules, here’s my How To Write A Limerick<\/em><\/a> article.)<\/p>\n

I\u2019ll announce the winners on October 25, 2020,<\/strong> right before I post the next Limerick-Off. So that gives you two full weeks<\/strong> to submit your clever, polished verse. Your submission deadline is Saturday, October 24, 2020 at 4:00 p.m. <\/strong> (Eastern Time.)<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s my SUIT\/PURSUIT-rhyme limerick: <\/p>\n

\nI’m fazed by my ex’s new phase:
\nHe’ll stare at a puzzle for days.
\nIt’s a puzzling pursuit
\nFor a scatter-brained brute…
\nThough he DOES do it sprawled on a chaise.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

And here\u2019s my two-verse NEIGHBORS-themed limerick:<\/p>\n

\nI was playing a Beethoven piece,
\nWhen a neighbor upstairs called the p’lice.
\n“She’s too loud. I can’t sleep,”
\nShe complained. “I could weep.
\nShe is breaching the peace. Make her cease!”<\/p>\n

“It’s an odd time to sleep,” said the cop.
\n“You can hardly expect her to stop
\nPlaying piano so soon.
\nIt is mid-afternoon…
\nAnd be grateful she ain’t playing pop.”<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
