It\u2019s Limerick-Off time, once again. And that means I write a limerick, and you write your own, using the same rhyme word. Then you post your limerick(s) as a comment to this post and, if you\u2019re a Facebook user, on Facebook too.<\/a><\/p>\n

I hope you\u2019ll join me in writing limericks using HAIL or HALE at the end of any one line.<\/strong> (Homonyms or homophones are fine.)<\/p>\n

The best submission will be crowned Limerick-Off Award Winner. (Here\u2019s last week\u2019s Limerick-Off Award Winner.<\/a>)<\/p>\n

Additionally,<\/strong> you may write themed limericks<\/strong> related to WRITER’S BLOCK, using any rhyme word.<\/strong> And of course I\u2019ll present an extra award \u2014 one for the best WRITER’S BLOCK<\/strong>-related limerick.<\/p>\n

How will your poems be judged? By meter, rhyme, cleverness, and humor. (If you\u2019re feeling a bit fuzzy about limerick writing rules, here’s my How To Write A Limerick<\/em><\/a> article.)<\/p>\n

I\u2019ll announce the winners on July 19, 2020,<\/strong> right before I post the next Limerick-Off. So that gives you two full weeks<\/strong> to submit your clever, polished verse. Your submission deadline is Saturday, July 18, 2020 at 4:00 p.m. <\/strong> (Eastern Time.)<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s my Hail\/Hale-rhyme limerick: <\/p>\n

“Are you ailing? You look very pale;
\nNot your usual hardy and hale.”
\n“No, I think I’ll be fine,
\nOnce I’ve guzzled some wine.
\nSeems I’ve just had my first taste of kale.”<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

And here\u2019s my Writer’s Block-themed limerick:<\/p>\n

My muse has, alas, gone on strike;
\nAt best, it has taken a hike.
\nAnd I won’t say this twice —
\nI don’t want your advice:
\nWriting AIN’T just like riding a bike!<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
