It\u2019s Limerick-Off time, once again. And that means I write a limerick, and you write your own, using the same rhyme word. Then you post your limerick(s) as a comment to this post and, if you\u2019re a Facebook user, on Facebook too.<\/a><\/p>\n

I hope you\u2019ll join me in writing limericks using SOLE or SOUL at the end of any one line.<\/strong> (Homonyms or homophones are fine.)<\/p>\n

The best submission will be crowned Limerick-Off Award Winner. (Here\u2019s last week\u2019s Limerick-Off Award Winner<\/a>.)<\/p>\n

Additionally,<\/strong> you may write themed limericks<\/strong> related to WEAPONS, using any rhyme word.<\/strong> And of course I\u2019ll present an extra award \u2014 one for the best WEAPON<\/strong>-related limerick.<\/p>\n

How will your poems be judged? By meter, rhyme, cleverness, and humor. (If you\u2019re feeling a bit fuzzy about limerick writing rules, here’s my How To Write A Limerick<\/em><\/a> article.)<\/p>\n

I\u2019ll announce the winners on July 5, 2020,<\/strong> right before I post the next Limerick-Off. So that gives you two full weeks<\/strong> to submit your clever, polished verse. Your submission deadline is Saturday, July 4, 2020 at 4:00 p.m.<\/strong> (Eastern Time.)<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s my SOLE\/SOUL-rhyme limerick: <\/p>\n

\nWhen I ordered a French Dover sole,
\nMy fish-dish arrived in a bowl.
\n“What’s THIS? Why no PLATE?”
\nI shouted, irate.
\n(My new rating is “Dinnerware Troll.”)<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

And here\u2019s my WEAPONS-themed limerick:<\/p>\n

What’s my weapon of choice? It is words.
\nGuns and rifles and knives? For the birds!
\nKill or maim? Not my aim.
\n(Please don’t make me shoot game!)
\nI’m just one of those bookwormy nerds. <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
