UPDATE: NEW SUBMISSION DEADLINE – NOVEMBER 9, 2019, due to family health issues.<\/strong><\/p>\n

It\u2019s Limerick-Off time, once again. And that means I write a limerick, and you write your own, using the same rhyme word. Then you post your limerick(s) as a comment to this post and, if you\u2019re a Facebook user, on Facebook too.<\/a><\/p>\n

I hope you\u2019ll join me in writing limericks using LOCK at the end of any one line.<\/strong> (Homonyms or homophones are fine.)<\/p>\n

The best submission will be crowned Limerick-Off Award Winner. (Here\u2019s last week\u2019s Limerick-Off Award Winner<\/a>.)<\/p>\n

Additionally,<\/strong> you may write themed limericks<\/strong> related to JAZZ, using any rhyme word.<\/strong> And of course I\u2019ll present an extra award \u2014 one for the best JAZZ<\/strong>-related limerick.<\/p>\n

How will your poems be judged? By meter, rhyme, cleverness, and humor. (If you\u2019re feeling a bit fuzzy about limerick writing rules, here’s my How To Write A Limerick<\/em><\/a> article.)<\/p>\n

I\u2019ll announce the winners on November 10, 2019,<\/strong> right before I post the next Limerick-Off. Your submission deadline is Saturday, November 9, 2019 at 10:00 p.m. <\/strong> (Eastern Time.)<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s my LOCK-rhyme limerick: <\/p>\n

Politicians take actions that shock.
\nOn stupidity, most have a lock.
\nBut there’s one saving grace
\nIn their steep downward race:
\nThey at least give us something to mock.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

And here\u2019s my JAZZ-themed limerick:<\/p>\n

A businessman, stodgy and bland,
\nHad a second career in a band.
\nHe’d unwind, legs astride
\nHis piano bench, wide,
\nPlaying stride on an old baby grand. <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
