It\u2019s Limerick-Off time, once again. And that means I write a limerick, and you write your own, using the same rhyme word. Then you post your limerick(s) as a comment to this post and, if you\u2019re a Facebook user, on Facebook too<\/a>.<\/p>\n

I hope you\u2019ll join me in writing limericks using NOTE at the end of any one line.<\/strong> (Homonyms or homophones are fine.)<\/p>\n

The best submission will be crowned Limerick-Off Award Winner. (Here\u2019s last week\u2019s Limerick-Off Award Winner<\/a>.)<\/p>\n

Additionally,<\/strong> you may write themed limericks<\/strong> related to GRAMMAR, using any rhyme word.<\/strong> And of course I\u2019ll present an extra award \u2014 one for the best GRAMMAR<\/strong>-related limerick.<\/p>\n

How will your poems be judged? By meter, rhyme, cleverness, and humor. (If you\u2019re feeling a bit fuzzy about limerick writing rules, here’s my How To Write A Limerick<\/em><\/a> article.)<\/p>\n

I\u2019ll announce the winners on September 29, 2019<\/strong> right before I post the next Limerick-Off. (Due to my travel schedule you’ll have one extra week<\/strong> to submit your clever, polished verse.) Your submission deadline is Saturday, September 28, 2019 at 10:00 p.m. <\/strong> (Eastern Time.)<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s my NOTE-rhyme limerick: <\/p>\n

A man who was singing by rote
\nKept hitting an out of tune note.
\nBut nobody cared;
\nInstead, they just stared.
\nHe was cute, which “earned” everyone’s vote.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

And here\u2019s my GRAMMAR-themed limerick:<\/p>\n

A woman encountered an ad
\nWhose grammar was markedly bad.
\nSo she dashed off a note
\nTo the sponsor and wrote:
\n“Are you even a middle school grad?”<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
