It\u2019s Limerick-Off time, once again. And that means I write a limerick, and you write your own, using the same rhyme word. Then you post your limerick(s) as a comment to this post and, if you\u2019re a Facebook user, on Facebook too.<\/a><\/p>\n

I hope you\u2019ll join me in writing limericks using BITE or BYTE at the end of any one line.<\/strong> (Homonyms or homophones are fine.)<\/p>\n

The best submission will be crowned Limerick-Off Award Winner. (Here\u2019s last week\u2019s Limerick-Off Award Winner.<\/a>)<\/p>\n

Additionally,<\/strong> you may write themed limericks<\/strong> related to THREATS, using any rhyme word.<\/strong> And of course I\u2019ll present an extra award \u2014 one for the best <\/strong>THREAT-related limerick.<\/p>\n

How will your poems be judged? By meter, rhyme, cleverness, and humor. (If you\u2019re feeling a bit fuzzy about limerick writing rules, here’s my How To Write A Limerick<\/em><\/a> article.)<\/p>\n

I\u2019ll announce the winners on August 11, 2019<\/strong> right before I post the next Limerick-Off. So that gives you two full weeks<\/strong> to submit your clever, polished verse. Your submission deadline is Saturday, August 10, 2019 at 10:00 p.m.<\/strong> (Eastern Time.)<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s my BITE\/BYTE-rhyme limerick: <\/p>\n

\nA fellow who’d spent his last dime
\nOn a reference book about rhyme,
\nWrote light verse day and night.
\nSome was trite. Some had bite.
\nBut none sold, so he moved on to crime.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

And here\u2019s my THREAT-themed limerick:<\/p>\n

\n“Kindly don’t call me ‘Ms.’ Call me ‘Miss,’
\nSaid a gal with a rather loud hiss.
\n“All that feminist crap
\nMakes me sick,” went her rap.
\n“And I’ll sue you cuz ‘Ms.’ is a diss.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
