It\u2019s Limerick-Off time, once again. And that means I write a limerick, and you write your own, using the same rhyme word. Then you post your limerick(s) as a comment to this post and, if you\u2019re a Facebook user, on Facebook too.<\/a><\/p>\n

I hope you\u2019ll join me in writing limericks using SCREEN at the end of any one line.<\/strong> (Homonyms or homophones are fine.)<\/p>\n

The best submission will be crowned Limerick-Off Award Winner. (Here\u2019s last week\u2019s Limerick-Off Award Winner<\/a>.)<\/p>\n

Additionally,<\/strong> you may write themed limericks<\/strong> related to WIND INSTUMENTS, using any rhyme word.<\/strong> And of course I\u2019ll present an extra award \u2014 one for the best WIND-INSTRUMENT<\/strong>-related limerick.<\/p>\n

How will your poems be judged? By meter, rhyme, cleverness, and humor. (If you\u2019re feeling a bit fuzzy about limerick writing rules, here’s my How To Write A Limerick<\/em><\/a> article.)<\/p>\n

I\u2019ll announce the winners on July 14, 2019,<\/strong> right before I post the next Limerick-Off. So that gives you two full weeks<\/strong> to submit your clever, polished verse. Your submission deadline is Saturday, July 13, 2019 at 10:00 p.m. <\/strong> (Eastern Time.)<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s my SCREEN-rhyme limerick, which happens to be an acrostic limerick:<\/p>\n

S<\/strong>he is tiny; at barely five feet,
\nH<\/strong>er heels swing from a normal-sized seat.
\nO<\/strong>h those movies, unseen;
\nR<\/strong>angy men block the screen.
\nT<\/strong>heater\u2019s hopeless; home-viewing is sweet.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

And here\u2019s my WIND-INSTRUMENT-themed limerick, which is also an acrostic limerick:<\/p>\n

O<\/strong>h the sound of the oboe is great,
\nB<\/strong>ut the reed making makes me irate.
\nO<\/strong>ften reeds that seem fine
\nE<\/strong>nd up trashed. (Most of mine!)
\nS<\/strong>o I envy the flute player’s fate.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
