It\u2019s Limerick-Off time, once again. And that means I write a limerick, and you write your own, using the same rhyme word. Then you post your limerick(s) as a comment to this post and, if you\u2019re a Facebook user, on Facebook too<\/a>.<\/p>\n

I hope you\u2019ll join me in writing limericks using GRIN or CHAGRIN at the end of any one line.<\/strong> (Homonyms or homophones are fine.)<\/p>\n

The best submission will be crowned Limerick-Off Award Winner. (Here\u2019s last week\u2019s Limerick-Off Award Winner<\/a>.)<\/p>\n

Additionally,<\/strong> you may write themed limericks<\/strong> related to POLICE, using any rhyme word.<\/strong> And of course I\u2019ll present an extra award \u2014 one for the best POLICE<\/strong>-related limerick.<\/p>\n

How will your poems be judged? By meter, rhyme, cleverness, and humor. (If you\u2019re feeling a bit fuzzy about limerick writing rules, here’s my How To Write A Limerick<\/em><\/a> article.)<\/p>\n

I\u2019ll announce the winners on May 5, 2019,<\/strong> right before I post the next Limerick-Off. So that gives you two full weeks<\/strong> to submit your clever, polished verse. Your submission deadline is Saturday, May 4, 2019 at 10:00 p.m. <\/strong> (Eastern Time.)<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s my GRIN-Rhyme limerick: <\/p>\n

“You’re meeting my folks, so be nice.
\nPlease pretend that you’re sugar and spice.
\nThat’s a smirk; not a grin.
\nCan’t you smile? Lose the gin
\nAnd behave, or you won’t see them twice.”<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

And here’s my POLICE-Themed limerick:<\/p>\n

\nA fellow was sick of the grind
\nAnd desp’rate to go and unwind.
\nBut relaxing was hard;
\nHe was always on guard,
\nCuz a cop never knows what he’ll find.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
