It\u2019s Limerick-Off time, once again. And that means I write a limerick, and you write your own, using the same rhyme word. Then you post your limerick(s) as a comment to this post and, if you\u2019re a Facebook user, on Facebook too.<\/a><\/p>\n

I hope you\u2019ll join me in writing limericks using CAN at the end of any one line.<\/strong> (Homonyms or homophones are fine.)<\/p>\n

The best submission will be crowned Limerick-Off Award Winner. (Here\u2019s last week\u2019s Limerick-Off Award Winner<\/a>.)<\/p>\n

Additionally,<\/strong> you may write themed limericks<\/strong> related to GIFT-GIVING, using any rhyme scheme.<\/strong> And of course I\u2019ll present an extra award \u2014 one for the best GIFT-GIVING<\/strong> related limerick.<\/p>\n

How will your poems be judged? By meter, rhyme, cleverness, and humor. (If you\u2019re feeling a bit fuzzy about limerick writing rules, here’s my How To Write A Limerick<\/em><\/a> article.)<\/p>\n

I\u2019ll announce the winners on May 27, 2018,<\/strong> right before I post the next Limerick-Off. So that gives you two full weeks<\/strong> to submit your clever, polished verse. Your submission deadline is Saturday, May 26, 2018 at 10:00 p.m. <\/strong> (Eastern Time.)<\/p>\n

People often mix “can” up with “may,”
\nNever knowing which one they should say.
\n“Yes, you may?” “Yes, you can?”
\nWhy not can it and ban
\nTheir distinctions? The sticklers say “Nay!”<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
