It\u2019s Limerick-Off time, once again. And that means I write a limerick, and you write your own, using the same rhyme word. Then you post your limerick(s) as a comment to this post and, if you\u2019re a Facebook user, on Facebook too.<\/a><\/p>\n

I hope you\u2019ll join me in writing limericks using PENNED or DEPEND or EXPEND at the end of any one line.<\/strong> (Homonyms or homophones are fine.)<\/p>\n

The best submission will be crowned Limerick-Off Award Winner. (Here\u2019s last week\u2019s Limerick-Off Award Winner<\/a>.)<\/p>\n

Additionally,<\/strong> you may write themed limericks<\/strong> related to IMPATIENCE, using any rhyme scheme.<\/strong> And of course I\u2019ll present an extra award \u2014 one for the best IMPATIENCE<\/strong>-related limerick.<\/p>\n

How will your poems be judged? By meter, rhyme, cleverness, and humor. (If you\u2019re feeling a bit fuzzy about limerick writing rules, here’s my How To Write A Limerick<\/em><\/a> article.)<\/p>\n

I\u2019ll announce the winners on February 4, 2018<\/strong> right before I post the next Limerick-Off. So that gives you two full weeks<\/strong> to submit your clever, polished verse. Your submission deadline is Saturday, February 3, 2018 at 10:00 p.m. <\/strong> (Eastern Time.)<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s my “penned” limerick: <\/p>\n

\n“My regrets, but I can not attend,”
\nReads each answer, both emailed and penned.
\nNot one guest for my bash!
\nSo my dream turns to ash.
\nWill this nightmare of mine never end?\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

And here’s my impatience-themed limerick:<\/p>\n

As I wait and I wait and I wait,
\nI am thrust beyond merely irate.
\nwhat is taking so long?
\nDid my muse smoke a bong?
\nSeems a punchline-less lim’rick’s my fate.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
