It\u2019s Limerick-Off time, once again. And that means I write a limerick, and you write your own, using the same rhyme word. Then you post your limerick as a comment to this post and, if you\u2019re a Facebook user, on Facebook too<\/a>.<\/p>\n

I hope you\u2019ll join me in writing a limerick using TACT<\/strong> or INTACT<\/strong> or TACKED<\/strong> or ATTACKED<\/strong> at the end of Line 1 or Line 2 or Line 5. (Homonyms or homophones are fine.)<\/p>\n

The best submission will be crowned Limerick-Off Award Winner. (Here\u2019s last week\u2019s Limerick-Off Award Winner<\/a>.)<\/p>\n

Additionally,<\/strong> you may write a themed limerick<\/strong> related to WINTER, using any rhyme scheme.<\/strong> And of course I\u2019ll present an extra award \u2014 one for the best winter-related limerick.<\/p>\n

How will your poems be judged? By meter, rhyme, cleverness, and humor. (If you\u2019re feeling a bit fuzzy about limerick writing rules, here’s my How To Write A Limerick<\/em><\/a> article.)<\/p>\n

I\u2019ll announce the winners on Feb. 21,<\/strong> right before I post the next Limerick-Off. So that gives you two full weeks<\/strong> to submit your clever, polished verse. Your submission deadline is Saturday, Feb. 20 at 10:00 p.m. <\/strong> (Eastern Time.)<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s my limerick: <\/p>\n

\nAn editor lacking in tact
\nSaid “This reads more like fiction, than fact.
\nIt will never appear
\nOn our pages, my dear;
\nWe’d be sued and then have to retract.”<\/p>\n

Said the writer, “My story is true,
\nAnd I used to have proof — quite a slew.
\nBut my sources took flight
\nIn the dead of the night
\nAnd my document files were hacked too.”<\/p>\n

She continued, “I just need more time.
\nTo obtain extra dirt on that slime.
\nPlease be patient with me.
\nI can do it, you’ll see.
\nI’ll get proof of our publisher’s crime.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
