{"id":336,"date":"2008-07-31T16:56:28","date_gmt":"2008-07-31T20:56:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.madkane.com\/humor_blog\/2008\/07\/31\/bob-newhart-names-mad-kane-winner-of-2008-robert-benchley-society-award-for-humor\/"},"modified":"2009-07-30T05:08:26","modified_gmt":"2009-07-30T09:08:26","slug":"bob-newhart-names-mad-kane-winner-of-2008-robert-benchley-society-award-for-humor","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.madkane.com\/humor_blog\/2008\/07\/31\/bob-newhart-names-mad-kane-winner-of-2008-robert-benchley-society-award-for-humor\/","title":{"rendered":"Bob Newhart Names &#8220;Mad&#8221; Kane Winner of 2008 Robert Benchley Society Award for Humor"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Back in June I was thrilled <a href=\"http:\/\/www.madkane.com\/humor_blog\/2008\/06\/24\/im-a-2008-robert-benchley-society-award-for-humor-finalist\/\">to announce<\/a> that\u00a0I\u00a0was a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.robertbenchley.org\/2008_competition\/bob_newhart_to_judge.htm\">2008 Robert Benchley Society Award for Humor<\/a> Competition <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lexingtonfilm.com\/benchleyfinalists2008.htm\">finalist.<\/a> (The humor column that got me onto the finalists list is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.madkane.com\/opera_humor.html\">Guide For The Opera Impaired.<\/a>)\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Well, I&#8217;m now beyond thrilled because Bob Newhart, the finalists judge, <a href=\"http:\/\/benchley.blogspot.com\/2008\/07\/bob-newhart-namesmad-kane-winner-of.html\">picked me as the FIRST PRIZE winner.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Mr. Newhart even sent\u00a0me a handwritten personal note (reproduced below) explaining why he named me for the top Robert Benchley Society humor award.<\/p>\n<p>Right now I&#8217;m verging on euphoria &#8212;a dangerous condition for a satirist.\u00a0 But just to be mentioned in the same sentence as Mr. Benchley and Mr. Newhart is almost beyond comprehension.<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s Mr. Newhart&#8217;s note.
