It’s time to announce the latest Limerick of the Week based on submissions (on this blog and on Facebook) in last week’s Limerick-Off<\/a>. <\/p>\n

Congratulations to FRED BORTZ<\/a>, who wins Limerick of the Week for this funny verse:<\/p>\n

Most lumberjacks, some say, are brutes,
\nBuilt for power from abs, pecs, and glutes.
\nBut in math they do well.
\nYes they truly excel.
\nCutting logs, they compute all nth roots.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

NOTE: I enjoyed the line 5 wordplay so much, that I violated my own general rule against limericks that may need an explanation. So if math humor makes you loggy, here’s Fred’s explanation: <\/p>\n

\nFor those who have forgotten or never learned logarithms, you can compute a square root by dividing the log of a number by two then finding the antilog of the result. Cube roots involve dividing the log by three. And in general, you can find the nth root by dividing the log by n.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Ten sailors were all in cahoots;
\nWhen on leave from their sea-going routes,
\nThey would meet her to bang
\nAs a nautical gang,
\nAnd they\u2019d give her their ten-gun salutes.\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Scott Crowder:<\/p>\n

She never has colored her roots
\nOr toned-up her once perky fruits.
\nShe’s more than okay
\nWith her hair turning gray
\nAnd tucking her tits in her boots.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Colleen Murphy:<\/p>\n

Said a carrot to tropical fruits,
\n“For sight we’re the favored recruits.”
\nBut the kiwi replied,
\n“We’ve got C on our side.
\nSo there! Now go back to your roots!”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Stephen Fleming: <\/p>\n

I question a voter who roots
\nFor the tally of feculent fruits
\nOn the elephant ticket–
\nA baffling thicket
\nOf blustering arrogant suits.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Kathy El-Assal:<\/p>\n

\nIn Bayside, Mad put down her roots,
\nThen switched to word play from law suits.
\nNow Mark and his wife
\nLive a Queens-style life
\nWith peons who bear pun-ish fruits.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Kaye Roberts:<\/p>\n

A weight-lifter worked on his glutes.
\nHis sinews were ropy, like roots.
\nOnce skinny and fragile,
\nHe\u2019s not very agile,
\nBut a mugger just looks, and then scoots.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Phyllis Sterling Smith:<\/p>\n

A Scotsman named Ian McKloots
\nPlayed bagpipes that skirled squawky toots.
\nUntil one day at last,
\nWith kilt at half-mast,
