It\u2019s Limerick-Off time, once again. And that means I write a limerick, and you write your own, using the same rhyme word. Then you post your limerick as a comment to this post and, if you\u2019re a Facebook user, on Facebook too.<\/a><\/p>\n

I hope you\u2019ll join me in writing a limerick using either “TROLL” or “PATROL” at the end of Line 1 or Line 2 or Line 5. (Homonyms or homophones are fine.)<\/p>\n

The best submission will be crowned Limerick Of The Week. (Here\u2019s last week\u2019s Limerick Of The Week Winner<\/a>.)<\/p>\n

How will your poems be judged? By meter, rhyme, cleverness, and humor. (If you\u2019re feeling a bit fuzzy about limerick writing rules, here’s my How To Write A Limerick<\/em><\/a> article.)<\/p>\n

I\u2019ll announce the Limerick of the Week Winner next Sunday, right before I post next week\u2019s Limerick-Off. So that gives you a full week to submit your clever, polished verse. Your submission deadline is Saturday at 10:00 p.m.<\/strong> (Eastern Time.)<\/p>\n

Here are my two limericks: <\/p>\n

\nA cop while on ev’ning patrol
\nJailed a vagrant who’d stolen a bowl
\nOf hot soup for his meal.
\nIt seems many folks feel
\nThat stealing’s a RICH person’s role.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

and <\/p>\n

I’ve been asked as the rhyming patrol
\nIf roll can be rhymed with parole:
\nWith their stressed sound the same
\n(Roll and role) I must flame
\nSuch a “rhyme,” if true rhyming’s your goal.\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
