It’s time to announce the latest Limerick of the Week based on submissions (on this blog and on Facebook) in last week’s Limerick-Off.<\/a> <\/p>\n

Congratulations to CHRIS DOYLE, who wins Limerick of the Week for this funny verse:<\/p>\n

“A split of your assets seems right,”
\nSaid the judge to the couple’s delight,
\n“But I’m taking the collie
\nAway ’cause, by golly,
\nI won’t halve a dog in this fight.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Congratulations to BRIAN ALLGAR, who wins this week’s Facebook Friends’ Choice Award for this limerick which received the most Facebook “likes.”<\/p>\n

Though our dog is unable to write,
\nHe can play the piano all night.
\nHe finds Chopin a breeze
\nAs he chews up the keys,
\nBut his Bach is far worse than his bite.\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

And congratulations to these Honorable Mention winners (in random order) Konrad Schwoerke, Colleen Murphy<\/a>, Brian Allgar, Bob Dvorak, Will T. Laughlin<\/a>, Allen Wilcox, and Chris Doyle. Here are their respective Honorable Mention limericks:<\/p>\n

Konrad Schwoerke: <\/p>\n

As he soars, banking left and then right,
\nHe’s exalted by effortless flight.
\nHe considers a joint,
\nBut there’s really no point;
\nHe’s already as high as a kite.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Colleen Murphy: <\/p>\n

The one time my husband was right
\nHe squealed like a pig with delight,
\nBut I took it in stride
\nAs I knew deep inside
\nHis chance of recurrence was slight.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Brian Allgar: <\/p>\n

The witch was performing her rite
\nIn Macbeth, giving Gingrich a fright.
\nWhen she reached \u201cEye of Newt\u201d
\nHe jumped up, and said \u201cShoot!
\nShe ain\u2019t gettin\u2019 my eyeballs tonight!\u201d\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Bob Dvorak: <\/p>\n

A fellow was trying to write
\nA limerick funny and trite.
\nBut he harbored a hunch
\nThat his lines held no punch,
\nSo he drank some and slept through the night.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Will T. Laughlin: <\/p>\n

Congressional folk on the Right
\nResemble a 20-Watt light:
\nThey\u2019re easy to buy;
\nDon\u2019t get changed \u2019til they die;
\nAnd \u2014 of course \u2014 they\u2019re not terribly bright.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Allen Wilcox:<\/p>\n

\u201cWe don\u2019t see why you can\u2019t write Wright right,\u201d
\nSaid Orville and Wilbur with bite.
\nThe reporter, who had
\nNever seen them so mad,
\nThought it best that he too take up flight.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Chris Doyle: <\/p>\n

A young lawyer who hated to write
\nLegal documents gave up the fight
\nWhen she noticed that meter
\nAnd rhyme were much sweeter.
\nFor Mad, it was love at verse sight.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
