(January 16)<\/p>\n<p>Hot &#038; Spicy Couple (Limerick)<br \/>\nBy Madeleine Begun Kane<\/p>\n<p>Whenever we&#8217;re ordering food,<br \/>\nWe&#8217;re likely to be in the mood<br \/>\nFor dishes quite spicy.<br \/>\nWe hate to hear, &#8220;Dicey!<br \/>\nOur chef is a trifle unglued.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Note: Mark and I love hot and spicy food. And most chefs will accommodate us, once we convince them that we don&#8217;t mean merely &#8220;American spicy.&#8221; But sometimes we&#8217;re warned that the chef is a prima donna who takes &#8220;extra spicy&#8221; requests as a personal affront. <\/p>\n<p>And while this is  most likely to happen when the chef&#8217;s French, I still vividly recall this Manhattan Mexican restaurant incident:  The waitress said, &#8220;Don&#8217;t ask for &#8216;extra spicy,&#8217; or the chef will punish you.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>We ignored her and, alas, she was right.<\/p>\n<p><strong>UPDATE:<\/strong> June 10th is <a href=\"http:\/\/eatocracy.cnn.com\/2013\/06\/10\/national-herbs-and-spices-day\/\">National Herbs And Spices Day.<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This limerick seems appropriate for International Hot &#038; Spicy Food Day.
