Many of the winning clues are hilarious, and you can <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/lifestyle\/style\/style-invitational-week-1054-brainstorming-new-weather-terms-plus-the-un-crossword\/2014\/01\/15\/05c84f60-7c26-11e3-95c6-0a7aa80874bc_story.html\">read them all here.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>But first, here are my losing entries:<\/p>\n<p>ACID: Air conditioner&#8217;s name<\/p>\n<p>ACTUAL: When you give it an &#8220;F,&#8221; little changes<\/p>\n<p>BAGPIPES: Some music lovers would scotch this oboe&#8217;s cousin<\/p>\n<p>CAPFUL: Conceited man&#8217;s hat<\/p>\n<p>CIAO: An edible farewell<\/p>\n<p>CLEFT: It fits the staff to a T<\/p>\n<p>GUESTTOWEL: If you have to guess where it is, it&#8217;s time to go home<\/p>\n<p>HENHOUSE: Its pecking order won&#8217;t change, even with a fox in charge<\/p>\n<p>IRAN: I was late, so _____<\/p>\n<p>IRAN: I was caught with nukes, so ______<\/p>\n<p>LAVA: Virginia, in France<\/p>\n<p>LUCKYROLL: Vincent Piazza in Boardwalk Empire<\/p>\n<p>MILK: To take advantage on the farm<\/p>\n<p>MOUE: The sneering sound of a disdainful French cow<\/p>\n<p>OBOE: It begs for a rhyme<\/p>\n<p>OBOE: This wooden wind is A-okay<\/p>\n<p>OBOE: Playing this instrument&#8217;s a gamble, with odds of failure 440-1  <\/p>\n<p>PLACE: Where a noun you must bring;<br \/>\n       neither person, nor thing.<\/p>\n<p>POPSINGLES: Unmarried dads<\/p>\n<p>PROSY: Averse verse<\/p>\n<p>YEAH: Archaic doctor&#8217;s order<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In a recent Washington Post Style Invitational contest, we were given some crossword puzzle answers and asked to provide our own amusing clues for some of the words.
