It’s time to announce the latest Limerick of the Week based on submissions (on this blog and on Facebook) in last week’s Limerick-Off.<\/a> <\/p>\n

Congratulations to John Lawrence Ramos<\/a>, who wins Limerick of the Week for this funny verse:<\/p>\n

A colonial thief took a fall
\nWhen caught with a big sphagnum haul.
\nHe was trying to clear
\nA large debt to Revere.
\nIn short, he robbed peat to pay Paul.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Congratulations to Fred Bortz<\/a>, who wins this week’s Facebook Friends’ Choice Award for this limerick which received the most Facebook “likes.”<\/p>\n

On a dark, dreary midnight one fall,
\nHe awoke to a scavenger’s call.
\nBut wouldn’t you know it,
\nThat second-rate poet
\nNever heard, “Nevermore!” Not at all!<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

And congratulations to these Honorable Mention winners (in random order) Craig Dykstra, John Lawrence Ramos<\/a>, Will T. Laughlin<\/a>, Chris Doyle, and Johanna Richmond. Here are their respective Honorable Mention limericks:<\/p>\n

Craig Dykstra:<\/p>\n

I’ve been seeing this girl since last fall.
\nIn the bedroom, she sure does it all!
\nI’m one testicle shy
\nBut I still can’t deny
\nThat this gal is the Belle of the Ball.\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

John Lawrence Ramos:<\/p>\n

A progressive young man took a fall
\nWhen he tripped on a curb at the mall.
\nHe felt like a cad,
\nFor he hated to add
\nTo the problem of more urban sprawl.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Will T. Laughlin:<\/p>\n

The Knowledge that came from the Fall
\nWas not what\u2019s reported at all.
\n\u2018Twasn\u2019t Evil and Good;
\nRather, both understood
\nAdam\u2019s penis was laughably small.\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Chris Doyle: <\/p>\n

A great deli has had a great fall,
\nServing meats now that truly appall.
\nTheir pastrami, pat\u00e9,
\nAnd corned beef all dismay.
\nAnd their wurst? It’s the worst of them all!<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Craig Dykstra:<\/p>\n

When the debutante took a bad fall,
\nThe resulting unladylike sprawl
\nMade it clear in a flash
\nThat the “belle” of that bash
\nWasn’t even a lady at all!<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Will T. Laughlin:<\/p>\n

A boy had a terrible fall \u2013
\nIn the fountain he fell in a sprawl
\n(For this is what comes
\nFrom doing one\u2019s sums
\nWhile walking on top of a wall).<\/p>\n

Whatever the future may bring,
\nWe\u2019ve now seen a marvelous thing:
\nI think you\u2019ll agree
\nHow rare it must be
\nFor a summer to fall in the spring!<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Johanna Richmond:<\/p>\n

Submissions on holidays fall,
\nWhile you geniuses shop at the mall.
\nJust WATCH how I slip in
\nAnd give you a whippin\u2019.
\nYou can\u2019t put a price on sheer gall.\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
